Stepping Forward LA supports foster youth (ages 17 - 25) before and after they "age out" of the system at 18.

Each year 1100 young adults exit the foster system in Los Angeles without a support network to help them succeed.

Unfortunately, when they get put into the foster care system, they are separated from their sibling.

When Christian Bale learned this, he vowed to do something about it.

For 16 years, he worked to turn that vision into reality, where siblings can stay together while getting the stability and support they need.

The community includes 12 homes designed to accommodate sibling groups with full-time foster parents, along with a community center and additional supportive housing.

Keeping siblings connected means preserving one of the most important relationships a young person has during an already difficult transition.

At Stepping Forward LA, we believe young people impacted by foster care deserve connection, stability, community, and people who continue showing up for them.

Big shout-out to Christian Bale and his dedication to kids in the foster care system.

Back to school, backed by community! 🎒📚

A huge thank you to for donating 50 backpacks filled with school supplies to Stepping Forward LA!

In collaboration with we were able to help distribute these backpacks to young people and families in our community as they headed into the new school year.

We’re so grateful for partnerships like these that help ensure our young people feel prepared, supported and ready for what’s ahead. 💙

Happy Monday! ☀️

We are on track to hire 100 current and former foster youth this year with our latest cohort.

It's always so inspiring to meet the newest cohort and watch them show up fully present and ready to learn. We are excited to see what they will accomplish over the next three months and beyond!

These wonderful interns have already started off with a bang, bringing enthusiasm, fresh ideas and great energy to the team. Stay tuned as we share more milestones along with personal and professional skills strengthened.

Through our unique housing model, we provide support, resources and guidance to help young adults move into a place they can call home.

Since 2024, we’ve helped over 200 housing candidates secure housing and every move-in is worth celebrating. 🏡✨

Each new home marks a fresh start, greater stability and another step toward independence.

We’re incredibly grateful for partners like Ready to Succeed, who create meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and step into leadership. It was especially meaningful to see two of our staff members, both former Fellows, help supervise and support this year’s scholars.

At the recent Pat McCabe Impact Celebration, our interns had the opportunity to present a mock proposal for Stepping Forward LA while celebrating the completion of their cohort and graduation from our Internship Program.

We’re so proud of their growth, confidence, and accomplishments throughout this journey.

Thank you, Ready to Succeed, for continuing to invest in young people and create pathways for their future. We’re proud to celebrate this cohort and excited to see what they accomplish next!

Meet Deja, one of our inspiring interns at Stepping Forward LA! ✨

Deja is currently studying at Cal State Fullerton and pursuing her creative path in animation. Her dream is to one day bring stories to life through animation, possibly with studios like DreamWorks or Glitch Productions.

In the internship Deja and the other interns, learn the importance of asking questions and support as they create content that helps young adults aging out of the foster care system.

Through our internship, Deja is gaining real-world workplace experience, collaborating with others, and contributing her design skills to projects like the SFLA app.💛

✨ Confidence starts with one brave step.

At Stepping Forward LA, our interns build both personal and professional skills through hands-on projects that encourage them to step out of their comfort zone, for example creating and presenting a live workshop. One of those challenges...creating and presenting a workshop on a topic they're passionate about.

From health and wellness to financial literacy and beyond, each presentation helped build confidence, strengthen public speaking skills and create meaningful peer-to-peer learning.

Most importantly, every intern was met with encouragement and positive feedback from a community that believes in them. 💙

🎉 We are proud to celebrate one of our program coordinators, Jasmine Jordan, who has been selected to serve as a Los Angeles County Youth Commissioner representing District 4!

While continuing her work with Stepping Forward LA, Jasmine is expanding her impact throughout Los Angeles County by using her lived experience to advocate for foster youth and help shape the programs and policies that affect them.

“I feel very grateful for the opportunity to create meaningful change in my community. I’m especially excited to represent District 4, connect more deeply with the communities I know, and co-host future events.”
