Having a safe, stable place to live is foundational. Feeling comfortable, settled, and truly at home can build on that foundation in powerful ways.

Recently, our resident Simi received a complete room refresh from A Sense of Home, transforming her space into a home that feels comfortable, welcoming, and uniquely her own.

With support from her VCH case manager, Simi applied for the program, and the A Sense of Home team got to know her personal style, likes, and dislikes to help create a space that reflected her. Seeing Simi smile as she took in her transformed space was a powerful reminder of what it means to truly feel at home.

We’re grateful to A Sense of Home and everyone who helped make this day possible. ❤️

Housing First isn’t just a philosophy. It’s an evidence-based approach that has been shown to improve stability for people exiting homelessness. That’s why VCH recently partnered with CSH Source Housing Solutions to help staff reaffirm and strengthen our Housing First practices and continue improving outcomes for residents. Through discussion, reflection, and problem-solving, staff explored how these principles show up in our daily work and how we can better support long-term stability for the people we serve. 🏠💙

VCH’s Advocacy Committee joined neighbors and 28 community organizations at the second annual Westside Night Out for Safety & Liberation at Mar Vista Recreation Center.

We’re proud to have been part of an evening centered on the idea that communities can create safety by caring for one another, building connections, and making sure people have access to the resources they need to thrive.

We are thankful for spaces like this in the community where VCH can organize alongside our neighbors for affordable housing, housing stability, and a Westside where everyone has a place to call home.

When Roy talks about his life, one thing becomes clear: he’s always been resilient.

Roy spent years running small business ventures and navigating life’s challenges. After experiencing homelessness, Roy achieved housing stability after moving in with VCH and has since become a strong advocate to others. Whether he’s encouraging neighbors to attend events, helping people connect with resources, or sharing advice from his own life experiences, Roy believes in lifting others up.

“We all need help. If we encourage each other and use the resources available, we can make progress.”

Stories like Roy’s remind us that supportive housing creates more than homes; it creates opportunities for connection, growth, and belonging.

For more than 20 years, Venice Community Housing’s after school programming gave more than 500 students a place to learn, create, build confidence, and make lasting memories through homework support, arts activities, summer camp, and educational field trips.

At our recent end-of-summer camp celebration, we honored the students who have been part of Study Lounge in recent years while reflecting on the many young people, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners who have shaped the program over the years. Among this year’s honorees was Certificate of Excellence recipient Luna, an eight-year-old who loves writing stories, creating colorful artwork, and dreams of one day becoming a doctor, artist, dancer, or singer. Her creativity, curiosity, and confidence reflect the kind of environment Study Lounge has fostered for hundreds of students.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of Study Lounge over the years. Together, you’ve helped create opportunities for young people to discover new skills, build confidence, and imagine what’s possible.

Read more about Study Lounge and Luna’s story at the link in our bio.

Thank you, United Way of Greater LA , for standing with our residents and our community.

Helping people move from homelessness into stable housing is only the beginning. Staying housed often requires ongoing support, and that’s why resident services matter.

At a time when funding for housing and supportive services is increasingly uncertain, partners like United Way help ensure that organizations like Venice Community Housing can continue providing the services that help residents build stability, navigate challenges, and remain housed.

We’re grateful for United Way’s ongoing investment in resident services and their commitment to ensuring organizations serving formerly unhoused neighbors have the resources they need.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live in the community they help make thrive.

That’s why Venice Community Housing is proud to endorse Cloverfield Commons, a vision for creating thousands of permanently affordable homes alongside expansive public open space at the future Santa Monica Airport site. By giving teachers, healthcare workers, service workers, seniors, families, and others the chance to live closer to where they work, Cloverfield Commons can help reduce long commutes, strengthen our local economy, and make Santa Monica a more inclusive community.

Affordable housing and great public spaces aren’t competing priorities. We believe our communities are strongest when we invest in both.
