Over 80 teaching artists bring real-world expertise to LACHSA's conservatory-level arts training every single day. Today, we're shining a light on Jeffrey Obrow, a teaching artist in the Cinematic Arts Department since 2019.

Mr. Obrow is an accomplished film director, writer, producer, and educator known for his work in the horror and thriller genres. But ask him about teaching at LACHSA, and his answer says everything about what makes this school so special: "There's a magic there for sure."

We sat down with Mr. Obrow to learn more about his experience, his craft, and what it means to watch student filmmakers grow from freshmen finding their voice to confident storytellers with bold filmmaking skills.

At LACHSA, the energy around campus is absolutely electric. From the first day of school and Back to School Night to the start of arts instruction, it has been so wonderful to see the LACHSA community come together in celebration of another year of extraordinary arts education.

Here's to an amazing 2026-2027 school year ahead for every member of the LACHSA family. We can’t wait to see the artistry that unfolds!

When student artists come together, something extraordinary happens.

Last year, LACHSA Visual Arts alum Madeline Chae shared what it means to create, grow, and be emersed every single day in a specialized public high school built entirely around the arts.

Your donations help student artists like Madeline develop their fearlessly authentic artistry and the LACHSA Foundation is always grateful!

Another partnership spotlight created last school year: the Greek Theatre!

Not only did the Greek Theatre serve as our host for our very first LACHSApalooza this past May, but this iconic LA venue also gave back. Thanks to the theatre’s "Greek Gives Back" program, over 20 LACHSA Production & Design student artists and teachers got the opportunity for an extraordinary behind-the-scenes experience last spring.

Students received a private backstage tour of the theatre, its operational staff, and met IATSE Local 33 professionals that specialized in carpentry, props, lights, sound, and directing. In a small group format, the student artists rotated each area and learned about each of these professions. They also had hands-on experience with the sound and lighting boards, as well as directorial equipment. It was an exceptional field trip, and the union representatives were so very impressed by the LACHSA students and their commitment to their artistry.

We are so grateful to the Greek Theatre for their partnership and their generosity. We are grateful to all of LACHSA's alumni, student artists, teachers, and everyone who joined us at LACHSApalooza!

What new partnerships are in the works for this school year? Stay tuned!

The LACHSA Foundation honors the memory and legacy of Joan Boyett, one of the founding visionaries of LACHSA and the LACHSA Foundation, who passed away on August 4th at the age of 90.

Joan's contributions to the arts in Los Angeles are almost impossible to fully capture. In addition to being one of the driving forces behind the founding of LACHSA and LACHSA Foundation, she also founded The Music Center's Education Division and leaves her mark on institutions including The Soroya, the LA Philharmonic, the Garry Marshall Theatre, and so many more. She was a connector, a mentor, a door-opener, and a tireless champion for arts education her entire life.

She is not only part of the LACHSA legacy. She is part of the legacy of this county.

Our deepest condolences go to Joan's family, friends, and the countless colleagues and students whose lives she touched. We are all better for her presence in this world.

LACHSA Foundation is thrilled to share an exciting new partnership with Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE)! It's the beginning of a longer partnership as we become neighbors with new office spaces at the Hollywood Arts Collective next year!

Last school year, we connected the incredible team at LACE with LACHSA Visual Arts Chair Lisa Ruiz, and the result has been something really special.

Together, they created programing where LACHSA visual arts students had the opportunity to learn directly from working arts experts in the field through master classes AND received special access to LACE's recent exhibition at the Luckman Gallery. This is the kind of real-world expert training that changes how a young artist sees their own potential.

Creating opportunities for LACHSA and its student artists is exactly the kind of impact the Foundation exists to create! Part of our mission works to bridge the gap and connect LACHSA's extraordinary student artists with the broader Los Angeles arts community.

Stay tuned for more updates as this partnership continues to grow!

Two years ago, the LACHSA Foundation set out to celebrate an extraordinary legacy of free, conservatory-level arts education at LACHSA and a family that has been working together for forty years.

What followed was a series of moments we will never forget: performances, milestones, reunions, tributes, and a community that showed up in the most beautiful ways imaginable.

We are still feeling ALL OF IT. Join us in reflecting back at two years of celebration, community, and love.

Validation at the right moment can change the entire trajectory of a young person's life, especially as they are developing their personal artistry while attending a public high school.

One of LACHSA's alumna, Zoey Deutch, explained the importance of validation and taking student artistry seriously in a recent article in The Hollywood Reporter. She joins other alumni in their personal testimonies of LACHSA's impact.

Taking the arts seriously has always been a tenant of the LACHSA Foundation and why we are so committed to our mission. We believe in LACHSA, the power of exemplary, accessible arts education for every student that represents LA County's diverse and resilient communities.

Every day, we move our mission forward to help advance the opportunity of L.ACHSA. We look forward to sharing our plans for this next school year soon.

With 40 years of partnerships, the LACHSA Foundation looks to our fifth decade, and we extend our deepest gratitude to the generosity of our family of donors, partners, parents, students, and alumni.

The work of supporting an extraordinary public arts education at LACHSA requires a community of believers. Together, we believe that the opportunity that LACHSA provides to its student artists is worth every investment.

To everyone who has invested in LACHSA Foundation's mission: THANK YOU. You are part of our commitment to advance the arts at LACHSA, to ensure the access it provides to student artists across LA County, and to the undeniable proof that LACHSA student artists change the world.

This impact is yours, too.
