Sunday Assembly Los Angeles is an inclusive secular community that celebrates the one life we know we have. We meet on the second Sunday of the month at CFI West to hear fascinating talks, sing songs, share milestones, connect with each other, and enjoy a potluck.

Speaker Spotlight: Reverend Matt Wait

Reverend Matt Wait has served as pastor of First Lutheran Church of Culver and Palms for the past seven years and has been an ordained minister since 2013. In addition to his congregational work, Matt volunteers with Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), partnering with labor organizations and standing in solidarity with the workers who help keep Los Angeles moving.

Matt and his family are active members of the Palms community and are committed to using their time, energy and resources to help build a more just and equitable Los Angeles. This Sunday, he’ll share about CLUE’s work, the role of nonviolent organizing, and the ways communities across our city are advocating for economic fairness.

We believe in compassion, dignity and the inherent worth of every human being. We stand with our fellow human!

We stand with immigrants, refugees and families who are living in fear because of systems designed to intimidate, separate and dehumanize them. We stand against the policies and practices of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the US Govt that cause harm to vulnerable communities.

We reject tyranny in all its many forms.

Our community is built on humanist values: empathy, mutual care and collective responsibility. We believe that no one is illegal. We believe safety should never come at the cost of someone else’s humanity. And we believe solidarity matters, especially when people are being targeted simply for existing.

This is a moment to lean into our values. To check in with one another. To listen. To speak up when we can. To offer support in whatever ways feel possible. Small acts of courage and kindness add up.

If you are hurting, scared or overwhelmed right now, you are not alone. We see you and we will continue showing up for a world rooted in justice, love and belonging.

Today is Giving Tuesday, and we are asking for your support. Sunday Assembly LA exists because this community chooses to keep it alive. There is no big donor behind the scenes. It is all of us.

SALA has always tried to show up when it matters most. Our Giving Tree makes sure families have gifts during the holidays. Our COVID emergency grants helped people stay afloat during crazy times. Our food drives have supported hundreds of families. During the Pacific Palisades Fire, we provided housing, supplies, and support. When someone needs help, this community steps up!
