44.95 at Mt. Carmel.
Meet record.New school record. #1 in California. #4 in the U.S.7th fastest time in California history.
We are pleased with the opening performance, but we are looking at this the right way: there is still a lot on the table.
From a relay standpoint, our zone velocity was not where it needs to be, and a couple of the exchanges were not as clean as they need to become. That is early-season relay work, and it also makes clear exactly where the opportunity is. In the 4x100, speed alone does not produce great times. Elite relays are built on acceleration into the zone, precise marks, trust, timing, and the ability to move the baton without giving away momentum.
The California state record is 44.50. That is the standard. If we want to break it, and that is absolutely the goal, we have to put in the work. That means better chemistry, sharper technique, more conviction in the exchange zones, and a higher level of ex*****on across every leg.
The result was strong. The objective now is improvement.
