A movement - started by one stage IV colon cancer patient and her doctor to raise the $250 million needed to cure colon cancer.

In September 2022, The WunderGlo Foundation celebrated our 11th Year as a cancer non-profit organization. Still going strong and now into our 12th year of operation, we proudly move forward with this foundation’s vitally important mission and work in Gloria's honor, as her legacy and visionary cause, and in support of all cancer patients, caregivers and their children everywhere.

• In October 2021, Southwest Airlines named The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation as one of 52 non- profit organizations (top 2%) in the country to be recognized and acknowledged for spreading kindness in our community, during their 50th Year Anniversary "One Million Acts of Kindness - One Million Acts of Thanks" campaign. Southwest Airlines was impressed with how our team puts our hearts into action for our cancer community.

• The Los Angeles Business Journal named Gloria and The WunderGlo Foundation: The Philanthropist of The Year in 2015.

• In 2015, The WunderGlo Foundation dedicated the G.I. Oncology Lab of Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz for the Cure of Colore**al Cancer at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

• The WunderGlo Foundation has given $1.75-MILLION DOLLARS in funding research for the cure of colore**al cancer, detailed in The Wunder Project. https://wunderglofoundation.org/the-wunder-project- 2/funded-published-research/

• The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation Reiki & Guided Meditation Program for cancer patients/caregivers in So.Cal both off-site & on-site at USC-Norris Cancer

• Our on-Line Facebook Support Group - called “WunderGlo Chat for Colon Cancer” - is privately offered to CRC patients/caregivers/survivors throughout the country.

• As “Patient Navigators”, WunderGlo assists and accompanies cancer patients for their primary and second opinions with Keck of USC affiliate oncologists and surgeon’s consultations.

• Grants directed to Dr. Heinz-Josef Lenz at USC-Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and to Dr. Christina Curtis at Stanford University Medical School. The Stanford grant targets urgent work/understanding the mechanisms of colore**al cancer progression.

• THE WUNDER PROJECT RESEARCH -WunderGlo Foundation Funded Research, has been credited since 2015, has been published in 52-peer reviewed research papers, including New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research and Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. https://wunderglofoundation.org/the-wunder-project-2/funded-published-research/

• In 2016, through Wunder Project funding, new biomarker patents were filed at USC- Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

• The Children of WunderGlo” Programs support children of cancer patients. • In 2017, WunderGlo established programming that awards annual Scholarships to graduating High School Students across the country who have lost a parent to colon cancer and are pursuing their secondary education. This The WunderGlo Foundation discusses the importance of screening and how it can dramatically reduce the risk of colon cancer death.

"By Dennis Thompson HealthDay ReporterMONDAY, Aug. 24, 2026 (HealthDay News) — Getting recommended colon cancer screenings can reduce your risk of dying from the disease by more than 40%, a new study says.

People who took part in a stool screening program for colon cancer had a 43% lower risk of dying from that cancer, researchers reported Aug. 20 in JAMA Network Open.

“A previous evaluation of the program showed that those who received an invitation to screening had a 14% lower risk of dying from the disease,” said lead researcher Dr. Johannes Blom, a senior consultant and associate professor of clinical science and education at Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

“We have now been able to show that the mortality is significantly lower than that among those who actually take part in the screening,” Blom said in a news release."

As the start of the new school year begins for students across the country, The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation proudly shares a very special honor that we received earlier this year from the 2026 graduating 8th Grade Class of Mayfield Junior School of the Holy Child Jesus in Pasadena, California.

On May 12th, The WunderGlo Foundation was invited to attend a ceremony at Mayfield Junior School where a select group of non-profit organizations were personally recognized and were granted a donation as part of Mayfield's "Reach Out Funds" raised by their school's "Action Not Words" Program. Throughout each academic year, the 8th Grade Class at Mayfield Junior School works very hard to raise money to give to worthwhile organizations that provide assistance, research and education for those in need.

The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation was honored to learn that we were one of these worthwhile organizations that was selected! - The life of a very impressive 8th grade student, Lizzie, who nominated WunderGlo for this grant, was affected by colon cancer when her grandmother received a diagnosis in 2025. We were elated to learn that when Lizzie spoke about us to her 8th grade class to vote for the organization that should receive their top donation, "WunderGlo rose to the top" and received the highest number of votes!

At the presentation ceremony, several of the Mayfield Junior School 8th Grade students spoke about what inspired them about our mission statement, passion and accomplishments. Their words ranged from our funded research, goals and integration of The Children of WunderGlo Programs: Annual Scholarships and Tis the Wunder of the Season toy drive. Our President & Executive Director, Rebecca Keller, graciously thanked the student body for this meaningful recognition. Becky expressed beautiful words about how our organization started, sharing the impactful story of our incredible founder, Gloria Borges. In her speech, Becky asked for the entire auditorium's applause for these amazing students to "take their bow" for their inspiring efforts and in truly exemplifying their school's motto - "Actions not Words".

This The WunderGlo Foundation will discuss the story of a 40 year old man who was diagnosed with colon cancer after ignoring signs.

"For several years, Kenny Berbick, 41, exhibited a range of symptoms that began to mount up, but he always believed it must be “something minor.” Indeed, he told Newsweek that the problems began around a decade ago, when he first noticed blood in his stool.

The blood eventually went away, so Berbick, of Las Vegas, Nevada, did not feel overly concerned. That was, until the symptoms became significantly worse over the last two years, leading to a plethora of changes that he could no longer explain away.

“Over the last two years, I began having stomach pain that would come and go. I had recurring stomach pain, excessive sweating, changes in my bowel habits, pencil-thin stools, loss of appetite, feeling full after eating very little, and significant weight loss," he said.

Unfortunately, when his stomach pain became constant, there was no way he could ignore the signs. The problems were intermittent for years, but by 2025, Berbick was living in permanent discomfort. By that point, he asked his doctor for a CT scan, telling Newsweek that he “knew something wasn’t right.”

Berbick said: “I received a phone call while driving to pick up my daughter. My doctor asked me to pull over before telling me I had colon cancer and needed to go to the emergency room immediately because the tumor was so large it could obstruct my colon.”

While he tried to remain optimistic about his chances, Berbick soon discovered that his cancer was stage four and spread to his liver. He was given a very poor prognosis initially, but instead of focusing on the statistics, Berbick remained resilient and wanted to keep fighting.

Colon cancer can lead to a change in bowel habits, re**al bleeding, cramps, tiredness or weight loss without explanation. Although, the Mayo Clinic suggests that many people with colon cancer do not exhibit symptoms at first, highlighting the importance of regular screening tests."

This The WunderGlo Foundation shares a study which discusses that testing is underway on vaccines to intercept brewing colon cancer before it takes root.

"Now scientists are creating vaccines that aim to go further, teaching the immune system to intercept this type of brewing colon cancer before it turns into a full-fledged tumor. At least three potential Lynch syndrome vaccines are in development, including two in early clinical trials in the U.S. and a third beginning in Britain.

The shot that Norton helped test appears promising enough that its lead researcher, Dr. Eduardo Vilar-Sanchez of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, expects a larger study to begin early next year.

“It gives me hope,” said Norton, 59, of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. She had already survived a different Lynch-caused cancer and has two children in their 20s who inherited her mutation. If a vaccine pans out, “perhaps they won’t have to have a colonoscopy every single year for the rest of their lives.”

Everyone has what are called mismatch-repair genes, which are essentially spellcheckers to help fix DNA mistakes that can occur when our cells multiply. With Lynch syndrome, one of those genes can’t do its job properly, making it harder for the body to stop a buildup of abnormalities that can lead to tumors, often before age 50.

Colore**al cancer is the most common consequence. The average person has a 5% risk of developing it during their lifetime. A Lynch carrier’s risk can reach as high as 80% depending on which faulty gene they inherit, Vilar-Sanchez said.

Today there are two cancer-preventing vaccines, the HPV and hepatitis B shots that block infection from those tumor-causing viruses. But developing vaccines to prevent gene-caused cancer is more challenging than alerting the body to foreign intruders like a virus."

This The WunderGlo Foundation will discuss another substance that may prevent resistance in capecitabine (Xeloda)

Capecitabine is recommended as one of the first-line chemotherapy treatments for advanced or metastatic colore**al cancer. Researches have been conducted on capecitabine’s impact on the viability of human colon cancer cells and its potential to induce apoptosis. However, even in cases initially responsive to treatment, the development of acquired resistance significantly limits its efficacy. Challenges still exist in effectively treating patients with chemotherapy, and developing new cytotoxic drugs is hindered by drug resistance. Fisetin alters the cell cycle, inducing apoptosis, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation, and enhancing the therapeutic effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs.
