🌿🚲 ! 🚲🌿

We’re excited to share that LA Rooted received a grant from Routes to Parks @ ParksCalifornia. With their support we’re launching Paar on the Move: A Youth Bike Hub for Mobility Access & Nature outdoor adventures from Rio de Los Angeles State Park!

Route to Parks, first grant program, advances equitable access across the state and aims to remove transportation barriers that prevent historically underserved communities from accessing state parks.

Aligned with our mission, Paar on the Move, a 6-month program will launch monthly bike-led after school field trips and weekend adventures—helping youth explore our watersheds, beaches, and local ecosystems while building confidence, leadership, and community. 🚲

We’re grateful to partner with local state agencies, artists, teachers, and community leaders to bring this vision to life. So excited for what’s ahead! 💛

Application will drop soon for the first 15 students of the first monthly bike club!

🌟 Celebrating Our Summer Youth! 🌟

This friday, our amazing LA Rooted youths wrapped up the season by showing off their new skills and big hearts ❤️💪

🍳 Breakfast Crew: One group invited their parents to camp kitchen to learn how to make delicious French toast! 🥖🍓
🚲 Bike Team: Andrew taught how to ride a bike, Stacey led an ABC quick check safety demo, and Michael shared tips for riding in groups. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️
💧 Water Stewards: Theo shared about the big flood, Cielo explained where our water comes from, Charlie inspired us on how to care for water, and Theo closed with a creation story.
🎨 Art & Place: With the guidance of muralist Sonji, youth created beautiful art showing the places that mean the most to them in our water system.

We ended the day by celebrating with certificates, laughter, and community—youth, parents, grandparents, and even a few scampering littles! 🏆✨

💚 A huge thank you to the Routes to Parks grant, California State Parks, and all our partners for helping us make LA Rooted 2025 possible. Together, we’re growing leaders for a better future. 🌎💦

🌊✨ Wrapping up our final week of summer adventures with two epic days exploring LA’s water systems and wild spaces!

🦆 Yesterday: We biked & took the train to the Ballona Wetlands, riding 13.6 miles round-trip and learning how wetlands protect our coast and support wildlife. 🚴‍♀️🚉 Our youth experienced multimodal transportation firsthand—combining bikes, Metro trains, and teamwork to get across the city sustainably. Big thanks to for the amazing wetlands tour!

💧 Today: We visited the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant to see where LA’s water goes and how it’s cleaned for reuse. The kids got a real look at how our city keeps water flowing and why conservation matters. We wrapped up with a well-earned lunch at the beach and time to play in the ocean! 🌊☀️

From wetlands to water treatment, bikes to trains, we explored how our choices connect to the health of LA’s ecosystems. Proud of our young leaders for asking big questions and embracing the ride. 🚲💚

Day 2: Ventura Coast Adventures 🌊🚲

We woke up with the sound of the ocean, started the morning fresh—with the youth making breakfast: French toast delicious 😋

Today’s was beach day, still being cautious about the night scare, we packed our panniers with towels and swim gear, checked our bikes, and rolled out under the California sun. ☀️ we rode along the coast to Buena Ventura Beach.

What made the day special:
🥪 Lunch: Black bean tortas to keep us fueled
🚲 Ride to Ventura estuary- where river meets the sea 🌊. 🌿Ride to BV dunes –rode through a preserve of flora on sand- serves as natural defense from rising sea levels and storms.
🌊 Beach time – in we go!
Back at camp, we regrouped for the grill 🍔. As the sun set for the night, we circled the fire for stories, s’mores, and laughter under the stars. ✨

All meals- made by youth! And they were incredible!

Tomorrow, we pack up and head home! Summer Vibes!!
📸 Swipe to see: Morning breakfast, coastal ride views, campfire magic.

Day 1: LA River → Ventura Coast 🌊🚲

On Tuesday, our youth set out on an unforgettable journey from the LA River to the beaches of Ventura, carrying everything they needed—sleeping bags, pads, and group gear—powered by their own legs and determination. 💪✨

We kicked off the morning by packing panniers, doing an ABC Quick Check ✅, grabbing lunch bags, and circling up to stretch, ground ourselves, and review the day’s agenda. We ended with a bike blessing from our plant relatives and words of encouragement from our moms before rolling out along the LA River bike path to Glendale Station. From there, it was all teamwork: folding bikes, loading gear, and catching the Amtrak to Ventura. 🚆Amtrack may not always be the friendliest to cyclist so we had little bit of a hiccup but we made it through.

The train ride was full of laughter, card games, and quiet moments of reading. By 1 PM, we arrived at Emma Wood State Beach and the real adventure began:
🏕️ Camp set-up: Tents up, gear stashed, campsite tour.
🌊 Ocean time: First dip into that salty breeze!
🍽️ Dinner: Fresh-grilled fish (🔥 thank you, chefs!) followed by campfire vibes with s’mores and stories under the stars.

As night fell, we listened to the sound of waves—but not without a little drama! 🌊 With a recent earthquake in Russia and a tsunami advisory, our camp leaders stayed alert. A ranger reassured us we’d be notified of any changes, so we finally rested easy under the night sky.
Shout out to our camp leaders .y.romero and at ❤️A tremendous shout out of love and appreciation for the moms who accompanied us! It wouldn’t have been as epic without out you! Thank you for coming! , Yaya, Monique! The Queens!
Stay tuned for Day 2—more riding, more water, and more connections!
