A Place Called Home APCH provides a safe, nurturing environment with proven programs in the arts, education and wellness.

At A Place Called Home, caring staff, supporters and volunteers come together to provide South Central children and teens 8 years old – 24 years old with love, safety, enrichment, training, and opportunities through educational programs, counseling, and mentorship. After-school, weekend, and all-day summer programs and services include tutoring and homework support, as well as a full spectrum of i

nstruction in the arts, athletics, dance and music. Our high school dropout recovery partnership with LAUSD is open in the mornings and we provide year-round support for college preparation, SAT tutoring, and college counseling and scholarships. In 2012 we provided support for 68 first-generation college students in local schools and across the country. Whatever your age, when you join APCH, you bring amazing skills and abilities that may not be fully realized yet. Our smart, caring staff provides individualized attention to every member of our community, through which youth discover their interests, their talents – and their capabilities. This summer, two of our young musicians, Angel and Zee, took their talents to the Berklee College of Music for their five-week intensive, Aspire program. They had the opportunity to immerse themselves in jazz ensembles with a community of other young artists from across the globe. 🎷🎶🌎

At the finale, both youth performed in jazz ensembles with Angel earning an additional spot on the stage at the Berklee Performance Center.

From South LA to one of the world’s most prestigious music schools, this is what can happen when talented youth have opportunities.✨

Say hi 👋 to 29Live! our talented youth ensemble, consisting of musicians who bring together Pop, R&B, Jazz, and Rock. 🎼🎸🎷

At our end-of-summer performance, 29Live! gave their all to perform “Blue Bossa” by Kenny Dorham, which is a fan favorite piece! 🎶

29Live! is more than just a band. It’s an opportunity for young musicians to grow, build confidence, and discover just how far their talent can take them. From preparing for prestigious opportunities like attending the Berklee College of Music to performing at the grand opening of the Natural History Museum’s newest space, our young musicians are proving that their talent belongs on center stage.

This year’s Back-to-School Backpack Distribution & Resource Fair brought together families, local organizations, and partners to make sure South LA youth have the essentials and the support to start the school year strong.

A huge thank you to our longtime partners and event sponsors, LA Galaxy and Herbalife, for helping make this day possible year after year. And having LA Galaxy players Riqui Puig, Robert Taylor, and Harbor Miller right there helping hand out backpacks made the day even more special. ⚽️🎒

We’re also grateful to SEIA, McCourt Partners, Enterprise Bank & Trust, Niagara Bottling, BH Properties, Oasis Church, and Anthem for showing up for our community and helping make this event a success. 💞

Here's a sneak peak of how our community showed up in a big way this summer. ☀️

For nearly three decades, NBCUniversal has stood alongside A Place Called Home, supporting South Los Angeles youth. This year was no exception and their dedicated volunteers spent the entire day (in the heat 🥵) to bring smiles to our youth by running carnival games and activities, assembling thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies and essential items, and helping distribute them directly to the young people we serve. 📚🎒

Because of partners like NBC, the youth enrolled in our programs and throughout the community will begin the school year feeling prepared and supported to thrive in the classroom.

Did we ever mention how much our youth love the dance program here at A Place Called Home? And for many, it’s more than just dance. It’s an opportunity for their individuality, growth, and creativity to shine and develop! ✨

Our programs and services are designed to support youth throughout their development, from elementary school through young adulthood, focusing on building social-emotional and economic success.
