Recently, a group of young people and staff enjoyed a day at the Aquarium of the Pacific! They explored exhibits featuring vibrant tropical fish, playful sea otters, sharks, penguins, sea lions, and seals, each offering a chance to learn something new. A standout moment was an interactive station where the young people created their own sea creatures and saw them come to life on a large screen. They also had the chance to touch stingrays and sharks before concluding the day with a group lunch.

A huge thank you to our friends at Cartel Roasting Co. for treating our staff and young people to a delicious coffee bar experience at My Friend's Place! After serving coffee, they hosted a barista skills workshop where young people learned about coffee roasting and explored the basics of drink preparation. Experiences like these help introduce young people to new skills, build confidence, and spark curiosity about future career paths.

In addition, My Friend's Place is honored to be Cartel Roasting Co.'s Give Back Blend partner. With every bag of Give Back Blend purchased, 10% of the proceeds directly support the young people we serve.

Eight young people recently spent the day exploring Universal Studios Hollywood with MFP staff, where they experienced the magic of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, met their favorite characters, and enjoyed thrilling rides throughout the park.

Along the way, they shared a meal, explored themed lands, and made memories with friends while experiencing one of Los Angeles' most iconic attractions.

Experiences like these give young people the opportunity to have fun, build community, and simply enjoy being young.

A special thank you to Universal Studios for their longtime partnership and support of My Friend's Place. We are especially grateful for their contribution of park tickets, which helped make this memorable day possible for the young people we serve.

This month, seven young people spent time exploring interactive exhibits at the California Science Center, getting hands-on with starfish at the touch tank, discovering ecosystems in the island, arctic, and desert exhibits, and learning about natural resources available in California.

Field trips give young people the opportunity to learn, explore new interests, and experience places they may not otherwise have the chance to visit. We wrapped up the afternoon by sharing a meal together, making it a day full of discovery and community.

Thank you for making our Young Artist Market a huge success!

Our community showed up in a powerful way to celebrate the creativity and talent of young people at My Friend’s Place. More than 50 pieces of art were sold, meaning every participating young artist will receive income from their work, along with the affirmation that their creativity, hard work, and talent are valued.

Whether you joined us in person, purchased artwork, or supported from afar, thank you for investing in these remarkable young people. Seeing our community come together to uplift emerging artists and create opportunities for them was truly inspiring.

We wrapped up Pride Month with a Pride Ball!

Young people took the stage to share their incredible talents through drag performances, lip syncs, original music, fashion designs, and more. Every performance was a powerful reminder of the joy and authenticity that shine when young people are given the space to be themselves.

At My Friend's Place, we're committed to creating spaces where LGBTQ+ young people feel safe, celebrated, and empowered to express who they are—not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

Recently, a group of young people from My Friend's Place spent the afternoon exploring the Natural History Museum.

Thanks to the generous planning and hosting of Paul Haaga Jr., the young people received a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dinosaur Institute. They met museum curators and researchers, who shared their current fossil dig and research, offering a rare glimpse into the work of uncovering life from more than 200 million years ago.

The group also explored the museum's fossil preparation labs, where curators carefully excavate, clean, and preserve fossils before they are included in museum exhibits. Young people were introduced to remarkable fossils and dinosaur skeletons up close while learning firsthand about the science behind the discoveries.

We're incredibly grateful to Paul Haaga Jr. and the Natural History Museum team for creating an inspiring day of learning, exploration, and connection for the young people in our community.

Recently, a group of young people from My Friend's Place spent the day exploring the GRAMMY Museum in Downtown Los Angeles, where they discovered the stories behind some of music's biggest artists and moments.

From trying out instruments and singing karaoke in the interactive Sonic Playground to walking the red carpet and exploring exhibits featuring legendary artists like Michael Jackson and Sublime, the experience brought music history to life in exciting ways. Young people especially loved the hands-on activities and learning how iconic musicians found their voices and built their careers.

Thank you to everyone who helps make experiences like these possible for the young people at My Friend's Place.

In celebration of Pride Month, young people from My Friend’s Place visited the California African American Museum (CAAM) to experience Free and Q***r: Black Californian Roots of Gay Liberation. The exhibition explores California’s rich history of Black-led LGBTQ+ activism and highlights the powerful role of art, culture, and community in advancing movements for equality and recognition.

At My Friend’s Place, 41% of the young people we serve identify as LGBTQ+, and we are committed to creating opportunities for all young people to feel seen, affirmed, and celebrated. This field trip offered a meaningful chance for young people to connect with stories of resilience, leadership, and self-expression while reflecting on the impact of Black q***r changemakers.

Every summer, our Emerging Leaders Council (ELC) brings our community together for one of our favorite traditions: Park Day.

Young people, staff, and volunteers spend the day enjoying kickball, flag football, crafts, a shared lunch, and plenty of time outdoors connecting with one another. It's a day dedicated to fun, laughter, and building community.

A heartfelt thank you to the ELC for planning this special event and creating meaningful moments of joy and connection for the young people we serve.

The ELC is a passionate group of young professionals and community members committed to supporting young people on their journey out of homelessness. To learn more about the ELC, email [email protected].
