Students Deserve What is Students Deserve? a grassroots coalition of students, parents, and teachers fighting for justice in education and beyond.

What is Schools L.A. Students Deserve? a city-wide space bringing together youth, educators, families, communities, and movements to be a force that simultaneously:
A.) ENVISIONS the education (and the communities, city, and society) we want
B.) FIGHTS the current attacks on public education and the ongoing racism, classism and oppressions of the education system,
C.) CREATES real on-the-ground solutions that show the power that people to build what we want now.

📣 JOIN US FOR AN EMERGENCY MEETING ON SEP 22ND! 📣

This spring, & our partners pushed LAUSD to back away from a Fiscal Stabilization Plan that would have cut the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) by nearly 90%. 👏🏾👏🏿

Together, we protected the overwhelming majority of BSAP funding and won a commitment to prioritize BSAP + SENI with any new state funding. But the attacks aren’t over. LACOE has threatened LAUSD’s plan, while the district faces decisions around BSAP, mental health supports, Dream Centers, school closures, layoffs, and other critical student services.

🗣️ Join us Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 6:30pm for an emergency meeting, where we will share updates on attacks on BSAP, what the Fiscal Stabilization Plan means, & how we are pushing back to protect the programs students deserve!

We’re going back to give public comment to demand the LAUSD School Board:
📣 Protect BSAP funding!
📣 Restore Mental Health Supports by funding SENI!
📣 Remain committed to funding support programs for Black and Brown students.
📣 Cut funding to LA School Police & private ed-tech contracts!

This last July, leaders, alumni and staff took part in the first-ever National Pro-Democracy Youth Organizing Bootcamp, that brought together hundreds of youth leaders and organizers from across the country.

S/o to Movimiento Poder Alliance 4 Educational Justice Advancement Project & People's Action ✊🏿❤️✊🏾

Swipe to hear from young people about what impact the trip had on them. Folks got to learn and be in community with other youth who are organizing around public education, immigrant rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the well-being of their communities.

This past Sunday, August 29th we joined Black Lives Matter Grassroots & Black Lives Matter Los Angeles for a National Day Of Action For .

Hear directly from Amen & Ibn, who share a solidarity message and why they are standing in support of Karmelo!

Karmelo was a 17 year old child when he was forced to defend himself against white supremacist attackers. Instead of surrounding this boy with love and mental health support, the U.S. carceral state chose to make an example out of him.

We reject the carceral state’s decision and maintain that Karmelo is innocent. Self defense is not a crime!

This past Tuesday, Aug 25th: we showed up to the LAUSD School Board Meeting to demand LAUSD protect BSAP funding and invest in community based safety. 🗣️

Unfortunately, the School Board ended the meeting early 🥲 Leaving many students who came prepared to speak without an opportunity to do so.
