📣 STUDENT & COMMUNITY VICTORY! 📣

Today, LAUSD voted on a 3-year funding plan that would have cut BSAP by almost 90% and SENI by 100%—decimating critical equity investments for Black students and high- and highest-need schools across the district.

✊🏿But when we fight, WE WIN!!!!✊🏾

Over the past two weeks, students, parents, educators, and community members raised their voices and forced the district to listen. Instead of devastating cuts, we won the protection of almost all BSAP funding, reduced cuts for SENI high- and highest-need schools, and a commitment from LAUSD to prioritize BSAP and SENI with any new state dollars.

While there is still much more work to do to secure all of the resources and supports that Black and Brown students—and all marginalized youth—deserve, today marks a significant victory!! 🏆🏆🏆

Together, we protected programs that have transformed conditions for Black youth and other students of color throughout LAUSD.

This victory belongs to every student, parent, educator, and community member who spoke out, signed petitions, attended actions, made calls, and demanded better.

The struggle continues. ✊🏿❤️✊🏾

🚨 TOMORROW: NO CUTS TO BSAP OR SENI 🚨

Join us TOMORROW Tuesday, June 16 at 10AM as we demand that LAUSD protect the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) and Student Equity Need Index (SENI). 🗣️🗣️🗣️

LAUSD is proposing devastating cuts that would slash BSAP funding from $175 million to just $25 million by 2027–28, while also cutting SENI, a critical resource for students and schools with the greatest needs.

We are saying NO to cuts that target Black and Brown youth.

We are saying NO to eliminating equity programs while continuing to fund police, surveillance, and private contracts!

🗣️And we are saying NO to balancing the budget on the backs of students.

🚨Tell LAUSD: STOP THE RETALIATION! DON’T MOVE MS. TYLER! 🚨

Jsané Tyler is a longtime parent advocate, mentor and supporter of students, and organizer against educational racism and the school to prison pipeline. She’s been the Parent & Family Center Director at Hamilton High School for over a decade - building out systems to support students and families in need that never existed before her tenure.

In her free time, she organizes with Students Deserve and Black Lives Matter Los Angeles . Earlier this year, she was faced with tragedy as her cousin was murdered by an off-duty ICE agent - and she’s been tirelessly organizing for justice, as her work has continued.

She’s also been a union leader, shop steward and bargaining team member with SEIU Local 99 , recently helping them win a historic contract and raises for the district’s lowest paid workers, many of whom are also district parents.

Late last week, LAUSD added insult to injury and sent Ms. Tyler a notification that she would be displaced from the Hami school community. This is outright retaliation against a longtime community pillar and vocal advocate for marginalized students, parents, families & district employees - and it is horrific, vile and unacceptable!

📣 TODAY, students, parents, educators, labor partners, and community members with the Police-Free LAUSD Coalition, Equity Alliance for LA’s Kids, Rainbow Education Coalition of Los Angeles , and California Native Vote Project stood together to demand that LAUSD REJECT proposed cuts to the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) and the Student Equity Need Index (SENI). 🗣️

LAUSD is proposing an 86% cut to BSAP funding and the complete elimination of SENI—investments that support Black students, foster youth, students experiencing homelessness, immigrant students, LGBTQ+ students, Native students, and other historically underserved communities.

We refuse to let LAUSD balance its budget on the backs of Black and Brown students ‼️

We are calling on the School Board to:
❌ Reject cuts to BSAP!
❌ REJECT the elimination of SENI!

Join us again on Tuesday, June 16 at 10am and June 23rd!
