Closing out this year with gratitude. Rescue work is emotional, beautiful and very hard work all at the same time. The immense joy you feel when it all works out. You save a soul you know really needed you and they meet their forever family and live happily ever after. You give everything you have so they can live their very best life to make up for the years they weren’t treated as kindly. You play God and have to wrestle with brutal decisions because you want their last day to be their best day. I feel it all so deeply. I’ve struggled many times with continuing because it takes a lot out of you to love so hard and break your own heart this many times. I always come back to gratitude. I am so grateful I can give back. I’m so proud of what we’ve created. I always promise to give them the best 5 minutes or 15 years of their lives. For as long as we have them we will do whatever it takes to be their heroes. Happy New Year ♥️ Thank you for your support and kind words this year. We could not do it without you.

Welcome to the pack♥️. Baby Falkor and Matilda. Our new Pyrenees rescues who will join Bo in protecting the ranch. We’ve had a brural coyote issue this last year. Bo wasn’t able to manage it on his own, so we called in back up.

ARIELLE, we can’t wait to tell you her story. It’s one we are extremely proud of. The first photo is as we found her, then once she had settled in with us, and the final was just last week when she was set free. Thank you for working with us to give this girl the life she was always meant to have.

After Sampson passed yesterday, I walked over to see our donkeys. It’s guaranteed to cheer you up when you’re down. Jay R saw me and came running over like he knew I needed extra love. We rescued him when he was a baby in 2014 from the BLM. I ♥️ you Jay R! Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

Our greatest gift was giving him the dignity he deserved. Lots of tears and hugs today, but he is free🕊️Thank you Dr Brown for loving him as much as we did. We sent him off on a beautiful sunny day eating green grass and peppermints. ♥️

2018 was an epic day for our rescue. We attended an auction and took home every horse there. The reason is a longer story, but I held my paddle up the entire time and we saved 6 lives that day. An older stallion who we named Sampson, was one of those horses. As a child, I thought stallions were all wild and crazy like in the movies. Sampson was a perfect gentleman. An incredible friend to all. The most grateful for every moment we spoiled him. Several years ago, we noticed he had started to show signs of being neuro. As stallions do, he handled it all with strength and intelligence. He figured out how to manage each step and turn and always showed us he would do anything he had to do to keep enjoying life with us. With great sadness and lots of strength, we have made the decision to put Sampson down today. He has gotten to a point where he may hurt himself and I cannot allow his last day to be his worst. Please send him and us your prayers as we are all having a very difficult time letting him go. This guy showed us all the willpower to live and enjoy every moment. He never allowed his disabilities to control him. Always living in the moment and savoring the love and compassion we all showed him. I will miss you buddy💔

We opened our barn to animals in need after the Palisades Fire. This little cutie, Aristotle, walked right into our lives and hearts. He was initially scared and extremely cautious of us, understandably so♥️ In time, he learned to trust us and settled in at ALR. We’ve all grown to love him so much. Tomorrow he will be leaving and going back to his family farm. We have really enjoyed our time with him and wish him every bit of the happiness he deserves. We will miss you little man🐽
