How did

you find out about the next movie you want to see? Most likely you’ve said YouTube or a post shared on a social network. Digital is today’s word-of-mouth and water cooler effect combined. However, most people do not realize that the first digital marketing efforts in Hollywood date all the way back to the early 90’s. Indeed, there were many early pioneers who believed in the power of digital long before the digital medium was mainstream. It was on the backs of those people that digital has become the marketing powerhouse it is today. Yet, those early works are at risk of being lost, forgotten, erased as the Digital Revolution speeds ahead. When we realized that there was no concerted efforts to protect the classic Hollywood digital marketing campaigns, and to capture the fantastic stories that many of our friends tell about how these campaigns came to be, we knew we needed to do something. And thus, Hollywood In Pixels was born. The Hollywood In Pixels mission is to ensure that we collect and preserve the content created, as well as tell the stories, the awesome stories, of those early days in digital marketing. We have collected assets for a number of campaigns, both classic campaigns from the early days, as well as more recent campaigns that will soon be considered classics. We need more! And we want to share your stories! We are looking for passionate people who believe in the power of digital storytelling, and understand the importance of protecting a piece of history, to join us on this crusade. If you worked on early digital marketing campaigns and have assets you can contribute, please contact us. Also, if you worked at a tech company that helped power these campaigns (ex Macromedia people I’m looking at you…) also get in touch. It’s not just about reliving the past. We believe that the success of digital marketing today, as well as the excitement and acceptance of new digital technologies like VR and AR, build upon the foundation set by early experiments in digital storytelling. Back when a bunch of crazy people believed that digital was our future.

“Study the past if you would define the future.”

What an illuminating gathering at Hollywood in Pixels Women’s Luncheon last Friday, celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month in a room full of thoughtful, generous, and inspiring women!

We all met new people, strengthened existing connections, and walked away with a few ideas, perspectives, and practical tips that will help shape our AI journeys. One of the things I love most about this HIP community is the way knowledge is shared so openly and generously. It truly reflects the spirit of this year’s theme, Give to Gain.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible panelists, Jamie DeAngelis, Ingke Purrmann, Michelle Slavich, and Pearl Wible, for sharing your experiences, insights, and honest reflections about leadership, technology, and navigating this moment of transformation in our industry. Your generosity and candor created exactly the kind of thoughtful conversation we hoped to spark.

We are also deeply grateful to our partners, JustWatch, TikTok, Fanthropology, LG Ads, Spotify, and Stampede, whose support makes gatherings like this possible and helps sustain the community we are building together.

And sending out much gratitude to our amazing volunteers for the support and partnership that make this work even more joyful.

Every great picture gets sharper with the more pixels. We’re proud to welcome a new board member to the Hollywood in Pixels Board, Darnell Brisco!

Darnell is the EVP, Head of Growth at BOND, serving as a strategic and creative leader with 15+ years of experience in entertainment marketing, and digital innovation. He is charged with identifying and developing new ways to build on the best of entertainment campaigns, while creating new opportunities across a wider landscape that takes full advantage of BOND’s unique cross-disciplined operations.

Darnell is a storyteller who loves cracking a compelling idea, but feels most fulfilled (and grateful) to be surrounded by collaborative teammates that can bring true moments of impact together. He helped build one of the very first social media agencies, and has led over 500 campaigns across film and television during his career. When Darnell isn’t focused on marketing, you can find him watching the Dodgers, catching live music, drinking Cactus Cooler, or running from activity to activity with his 3 adorable daughters and wife. Darnell also occasionally moonlights as an awards host for Hollywood in Pixel’s “Silver Pixel Awards”. He’s honored to now serve on the board and continue to spotlight the history and future of digital entertainment marketing. A Los Angeles native, and unashamed fanboy, Darnell was named one of the 15 Most Innovative Agency Executives by Adweek (2017).
