No passado dia 30 de maio, o chapter da SF Bay Area antecipou a chegada do verão com um dia fantástico em Sonoma, rodeado de boa companhia, excelente comida e paisagens deslumbrantes. 🍇☀️

O encontro reuniu membros da comunidade e as suas famílias para um dia de convívio descontraído no coração da região vinícola da Califórnia. Entre sabores portugueses, visitas a adegas locais e muitas conversas, não faltaram momentos de partilha e boa disposição.

🍷 Com um ambiente acolhedor e relaxado, o evento foi uma excelente oportunidade para fortalecer laços, criar novas ligações e celebrar a comunidade portuguesa na Bay Area.

On May 30th, the SF Bay Area Chapter got an early start on summer with a wonderful day in Sonoma, surrounded by great company, delicious food, and stunning scenery. 🍇☀️

The gathering brought together members of the community and their families for a relaxed day in the heart of California’s wine country. Between delicious Portuguese food, visits to local wineries, and plenty of great conversations, there was no shortage of memorable moments and good cheer.

🍷 With its warm and welcoming atmosphere, the event was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connections, build new friendships, and celebrate the Portuguese community in the Bay Area.

Boston chapter| PAPS Careers Recap

🇵🇹 Na passada terça-feira, o Chapter PAPS em Boston lançou a nova série PAPS Careers, com a primeira edição dedicada à tecnologia — PAPS Careers in Tech — realizada no MIT, em Boston.

O evento reuniu três profissionais portugueses com percursos distintos em empresas tecnológicas de referência mundial: Pedro Miraldo (MERL), Tânia Lima (Microsoft) e João Santos (Amazon Alexa). Ao longo da conversa, os convidados partilharam os seus percursos, os desafios de construir carreira em contextos internacionais e diferentes perspetivas sobre investigação, produto e data science.

A sessão destacou temas como a importância da adaptabilidade, comunicação, profundidade técnica e aprendizagem contínua, bem como o impacto crescente da inteligência artificial na transformação das carreiras em tecnologia. Houve ainda uma discussão aberta e dinâmica com o público durante a sessão de perguntas e respostas, com temas que passaram por recrutamento, transição de carreira, cultura de trabalho e competências mais valorizadas na indústria.

Last Tuesday, the PAPS Chapter in Boston launched the new PAPS Careers series with its first edition dedicated to technology — PAPS Careers in Tech — held at MIT in Boston.

The event brought together three Portuguese professionals with diverse career paths at leading global technology companies: Pedro Miraldo (MERL), Tânia Lima (Microsoft), and João Santos (Amazon Alexa). Throughout the discussion, the speakers shared their career journeys, the challenges of building careers in international environments, and different perspectives on research, product, and data science.

The session highlighted the importance of adaptability, communication skills, technical depth, and continuous learning, as well as the growing impact of artificial intelligence in reshaping careers in technology. The audience also took part in an open and engaging Q&A session covering topics such as recruitment, career transitions, workplace culture, and the skills most valued in the industry.

We would also like to thank the Consul General of Portugal in Boston, Tiago Araújo, for his continued support; João Silva, for welcoming us at MIT; and Delta Cafés for the coffee and for helping create a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.

🏙️ No passado dia 9 de maio, os membros PAPS do Chapter de NY-NJ reuniram-se para uma visita verdadeiramente marcante ao 9/11 Memorial & Museum com o privilégio de esta ser guiada por Renato Baptista, Senior Project Director no museu, que partilhou uma perspetiva única sobre a visão, o simbolismo e as histórias por detrás de um dos memoriais mais emblemáticos do mundo.

🕊️Desde o Memorial Plaza e os seus icónicos espelhos de água — construídos sobre a localização original das Torres Gémeas — até às impactantes exposições subterrâneas do museu, esta foi uma experiência profundamente emotiva. Entre artefactos, testemunhos e estruturas preservadas, relembrou-se não apenas a tragédia de 11 de setembro de 2001, mas também a resiliência e memória coletiva que emergiram desses acontecimentos.

Mais do que uma visita histórica, este foi um momento de reflexão e homenagem a todas as pessoas afetadas pelos acontecimentos do 11 de setembro. A forte adesão e interesse da nossa comunidade tornaram esta experiência ainda mais especial.

Um agradecimento muito especial ao Renato Baptista pela sua generosidade, conhecimento e orientação ao longo desta visita inesquecível.

On May 9th, the PAPS members from the NY-NJ Chapter gathered for a truly meaningful visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, with the privilege of being guided by Renato Baptista, Senior Project Director at the museum, whose thoughtful insights offered a unique perspective on the vision, symbolism, and stories behind one of the most significant memorial sites in the world.

From the Memorial Plaza and its iconic reflecting pools — built on the footprints of the Twin Towers — to the powerful underground museum exhibits, the visit was both deeply moving. Through artifacts, testimonies, preserved structures, and personal narratives, the group was reminded not only of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, but also of the resilience, unity, and collective memory that emerged from it.

More than a historical visit, this was an opportunity for our community to come together, reflect, learn, and honor all those affected by the events of 9/11. The strong participation and interest from our community made this visit especially meaningful and a great success.

A heartfelt thank you to Renato Baptista for his generosity, knowledge, and guidance throughout this unforgettable experience.
