🎗️ National Citizen Day, also known as National Senior Citizens Day, will be observed on Friday, August 21, 2026

National Citizen Day is an annual observance dedicated to honoring older adults and recognizing their contributions to society. Established by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, the day encourages Americans to show appreciation for the wisdom, experience, and ongoing service of senior citizens, while raising awareness about issues affecting their quality of life

Purpose and Significance

The day serves multiple purposes:
🔷 Acknowledging achievements: Celebrating the accomplishments and dedication of older adults in communities, workplaces, and families
🔷 Promoting inclusion: Encouraging seniors’ participation in modern society, including digital engagement and access to services
🔷 Raising awareness: Highlighting challenges such as health, economic security, and social isolation, and promoting support programs

Read more: GLADinc.org/seniorcitizensday

ID: A light blue flyer celebrates National Senior Citizens' Day. At the top, large bold blue text reads, "National Senior Citizens' Day," with a purple calendar icon displaying August 21 in the upper-right corner.
In the center is a warm illustration of five older adults gathered in a cozy living room. One younger caregiver is assisting an elderly woman while the others sit comfortably, enjoying coffee and conversation around a small table. The room includes a fireplace, bookshelf, houseplant, and decorative accents, creating a welcoming atmosphere that symbolizes friendship, support, and community.
Below the illustration, the message "❤️ Respect. Cherish. Include. ❤️" appears in large blue text, followed by the phrase "Today and Every Day" in elegant black script.
Along the bottom of the flyer are the logos of several Deaf community organizations: GLAD, CODIE, DEAF, TCGLAD, and B-GLAD. The overall design uses soft blue, purple, and warm earth tones to convey appreciation, dignity, inclusion, and respect for older adults.

🎨🤟 Celebrating Deaf Art & Talent!

We are excited to introduce Tural Bayramov, a professional Deaf fine art artist from Azerbaijan whose work is currently being exhibited in Santa Monica, California.

Tural has been profoundly deaf in both ears since early childhood after experiencing cochlear neuritis at the age of two. Through his paintings, he expresses himself through color, emotion, atmosphere, composition, and visual storytelling.
His journey is a powerful reminder that art can be a beautiful form of communication beyond sound and words. ❤️🎨
