Big news! 🎉

Takao "Tak" Suzuki will be LTSC's sole Executive Director in fall 2026, continuing his incredible 26-year journey with our organization.

This fall, Co-Executive Director Peter Gee will be stepping down and leaving LTSC to move back to the East Coast. We're deeply grateful for Peter's leadership and are excited for him to continue his educational goals and next chapter of his life.

Together Tak and Peter strengthened LTSC, grew our affordable housing portfolio to 1,300+ units across LA, and deepened our integrated approach connecting affordable housing, supportive services, and community care.

And we're just getting started! In 2027, we look forward to the grand opening of First Street North Residences and Go For Broke Plaza — reclaiming land lost to eminent domain in the 1950s and transforming it into one of LA's largest 100% affordable housing developments. 🏠✊

Congratulations, Tak, and thank you, Peter. The future of LTSC is bright because of you! 🌟

Every resident inside Umeya, our latest completed affordable housing apartments in Little Tokyo/Skid Row, will now get to know the story of their home's namesake! 🍘 Following the closure of the factory in 2017, the Hamano family desired a community-serving space to be built on the site of their former Umeya Rice Cake Co. factory:

“Our family business has been a part of the Little Tokyo neighborhood since 1918. Given Umeya’s history and the community who supported us for nearly 100 years, the two are forever inseparable. We are truly excited to see the fruits of LTSC advancing their proud mission towards community revitalization and cultural preservation for generations to come.”
– Rex Hamano (Family Representative and Umeya President)

This AANHPI Heritage Month, we're looking back at Tohoku University's spring visit with LTSC staff on their annual LA field trip. The students learned about the Little Tokyo neighborhood, our Housing First approach to homelessness, and got to spend time with seniors in Little Tokyo Towers!

One student shared that he learned more about himself in his two weeks in America than he did in two years in university – maybe we created some future Angelenos?

Putting roofs over heads is only one part of the Permanent Supportive Housing equation: case management is also key to having a lasting impact on low income and formerly unhoused residents. Case managers like Cynthia with Housing Works provide care with a personal touch at buildings like Santa Monica & Vermont Apartments, working with residents to reach their goals!
