Our Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities has focused programs to assist those who were adversely affected by the genocide, many who were orphaned. Our Women's Cooperative helps to support over 85 women who live in extreme poverty in rural villages and who have at least one child with a physical or intellectual challenge. The Home visit Program focuses on mentally and Physically challenged adults, children and the very old who live in extreme poverty. We make weekly visits to different areas to service those in need. We help by providing food, a special porridge to prevent malnutrition, hygiene products, and clothing, while encouraging them to become independent. The Home Visit Program was started to help people who could not reach the centre because of their condition or distance to the centre. Also the center is limited to the amount of people it can serve daily. The Home Visit Programs first makes an evaluation to determine how best we can help the family. And what we can do to possible increase there becoming independent. We often integrate the mentally and physically challenged children here at are special classes at the center. We work closely with the schools who accept the special needs child so we can get the best results. Some of our mothers have stared a co-operative where they meet and discuss the special needs of their children. We have also supplied them with a teacher and material to make baskets to help them become independent.
