Women's Equality Day champions the ongoing fight for gender parity every August 26. On this day we celebrate all women who have taken steps to change the world for the better.🌍

At CCA we take this opportunity to honor the long-term caregiving workforce, the majority of whom are women. We are proud to serve the community of caregivers, who provide essential work to thousands of people in California every day.

We also take this opportunity to honor the special women who, as union members of SEIU Local 2015 25-plus years ago, founded the Home Care Workers Training Center (HCWTC), which later became the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA). Our founders wanted to provide In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) caregivers with training so they'd have better opportunities for equal pay to build better jobs & better lives for themselves and provide quality care for their care recipients.

CCA is seeking applicants for an open position in to help us grow our caregiver training programs for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs):

➡️Outreach Coordinator in Northern CA

This is a hybrid position that requires travel to nursing facilities in CA 3 days per week, with 2 days working remotely from a home office.

🚗The NorCal OC travels from Sacramento to Manteca & neighboring cities/counties.

CCA employees may also attend all-staff meetings at headquarters in Los Angeles 2X per year.

Successful candidates for this role will possess the following key qualities:

⭐Professional demeanor with strong relationship-building skills
⭐Strong prioritization, time management, and organizational skills
⭐A passion for cultivating meaningful relationships with students and key stakeholders

In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) caregivers who want to develop professional skills to open up new career opportunities may be able to enroll in CCA's "IHSS to CNA Pathway Program." This training helps them develop the skills of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and prepare for California's certification exam.

Here is what a recent graduate of this program had to say:

CCA thanks the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which provided grant funding that made it possible for CCA to offer a "Digital Literacy for IHSS Providers" course.

The success of this program showed that digital literacy is more important than ever for caregivers, with the broad adoption of online learning formats and digital approaches to accessing health information.

Our first cohort of caregiver students received a free digital device upon graduation to support their continued use of digital tools & resources.

This video from the Personal Assistance Services Council in LA gives voice to the many family caregivers in California who signed up for the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program, which enables them to earn money for the hours they spend providing essential long-term care to loved ones. In the Caregiving Essentials course, IHSS providers learn the responsibilities of caregivers, including the 5 enhanced roles of a home caregiver:

They also learn 4 key skills that support caregiver role enhancement:

Free Caregiver Training for Skilled Nursing Facility Staff! Our Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training Program has launched across California.

Available to staff at SNFs, the NVCI training provides nursing home workers with trauma-informed, person-centered strategies and practical verbal de-escalation skills. CCA partnered with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) to develop the 8.5-hour online/onsite hybrid training.

NVCI training focuses on teaching skilled nursing facility (SNF) staff how to use trauma-informed, verbal de-escalation techniques for crisis intervention. We piloted NVCI training via in-person courses in April-June 2026 at SNFs in California. Now we're expanding to more sites!

🔥Wildfire season is here. Congratulations to our caregiver students in who prepared by taking our Emergency & Disaster Readiness (EDR) course! 🔥

"All caregivers should take this emergency preparedness class! You will gain very valuable knowledge that you would normally have to pay for at a higher learning academy, but you are getting free access to this emergency information at CCA, and it is gold,” says caregiver graduate Angelica.🧯

As a Los Angeles resident, she particularly enjoyed learning more about climate change & how it can impact some LA communities more than others.

Angelica was among the first cohort of 104 caregivers graduating from this course. Each received a free emergency kit upon completion. She and her fellow IHSS providers in LA learned about emergency kits, "go" bags, developing emergency communication plans, helping care recipients with limited mobility to evacuate safely during wildfires & other disasters...and more! ♿

This free course was made possible through a grant from LA2050.
