Emergency preparedness is crucial for in-home caregivers because sudden crises disrupt daily routines & medical services, causing stress for both the caregiver and the vulnerable person they support.

🚒Caregivers often act as first responders until emergency services can arrive to help -- or until they get to an evacuation center.

CCA developed an Emergency & Disaster Readiness (EDR) course for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) caregivers, to prepare them for emergency situations.
In this course, IHSS caregivers learn:

➡️Emergency planning
➡️Emergency communication & contact lists
➡️Safe evacuation
➡️Assisting care recipients with limited mobility
➡️Sheltering in place
➡️Providing trauma-informed support

CCA offers the EDR course online at no cost to qualified IHSS caregivers, and will soon offer EDR workshops at locations in select counties.

IHSS provider Vincenta completed caregiver training to level up her skills!

She gained digital skills and confidence in CCA's Digital Literacy course. She learned how to compose and send emails, identify SPAM, conduct Google searches, navigate online platforms, and more!

Most importantly, she can now help her consumer reply to emails from his doctor.

This course was funded by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

See you there! CCA will participate in the "H-CAP Education Association Fall Meeting 2026" on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

This virtual conference aims to spark meaningful dialogue and fresh insights within labor-management training partnerships (LMTPs), which are essential in crafting worker-centered solutions in workforce development.

To support this goal, CCA's Home Care Programs Director Andrea Garcia will be presenting on how CCA builds evidence that caregiver training works. Her presentation contributes to the session topic of evaluating strategies for worker-centered training.

For Healthy Aging Month in September... CCA supports healthy aging by supporting the people who help older adults live well as they age.

CCA offers training programs for caregivers who are In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers, and staff members in skilled nursing facilities who provide direct care as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other care staff.

Did you know that over 55 million people live with dementia globally? September is World Alzheimer's Month—a time to learn more about Alzheimer's Disease & Related Dementias (ADRD).🧠

CCA offers a training course for IHSS caregivers who care for adults aged 55 and older who show signs of dementia or Alzheimer's. Knowing the difference between normal aging and signs of Alzheimer’s is critical, empowering both caregivers and families to utilize the caregiving methods and approaches that will best support the individual.

Students in CCA's ADRD course learn to:

✅Recognize symptoms of ADRD vs. normal aging
✅Observe, monitor, document & report symptoms or changes
✅Manage behaviors like agitation, anxiety, delerium, wandering & more

According to research by UCSF Health, after taking this ADRD training, students showed gains in these areas:

⭐100% of caregiver graduates increased their dementia knowledge significantly & demonstrated strong knowledge retention in a three-month post-training survey

⭐96% felt that they acquired new caregiving skills from the training curriculum

⭐94% agreed that communication with their consumer improved after training
