ABOUT SILVER LAKE RESERVOIRS CONSERVANCY (SLRC)
The Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy (SLRC), established in 1988, is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and enhancing the historical, aesthetic, ecological and recreational benefits of Silver Lake’s open waters and surrounding open space. SLRC works to reflect community preferences regarding the property and advocates

accordingly. While the reservoirs are part of the city water supply system, the SLRC will provide education about water quality, projects, and their impacts on the community. SLRC’s vision is to facilitate the transition of the decommissioned reservoir property and to explore new opportunities regarding open space, education, recreation, watershed, wildlife, native plants, natural habitats and land use once the reservoirs go off line.

‼️ Summer heat warning across LA, now with HUMIDITY ‼️🥵
Temps expected to be close to 100F all week, so be advised. As the climate changes, we can expect more extreme heat days, and will continue to “enjoy” a less arid climate. Today the humidity is already 50%.
This is why we want to plant more trees around the Reservoirs, especially along the paths. Keep cool everyone! 😎🪭

Thank you all for the swift action. The owner has shared vaccination records and everyone is ok.

We need the community’s help in getting information ASAP. In the Meadow on Sunday evening around dusk, a three-legged bull terrier (on leash) leapt up and bit a little girl. This led to a micro-tear in her skin (and a lot of tears). The owner left quickly without providing any information. The girl’s pediatrician put her on antibiotics but also needs to know if the dog’s vaccinations are up to date because that will affect the course of further treatment. We are asking the owner, or anyone who knows the owner, to DM us that information so we can pass it onto the mother. Her daughter is doing okay, and the mom’s main concern is getting the vaccination information her pediatrician needs.

⚠️ ARMSTRONG PATH ALERT! 🔔
Thanks to this section of the running path is getting some love!
Starting today, and through next week, the decomposed granite path is being regraded, holes filled, and the surface smoothes and recompacted. Note the work times, and plan your walks/jogs/strolls/promenading accordingly. Please also be respectful of workers’ requests and safety, and drive extra carefully in this area. ⚠️

This was just shared with us - PATH MAINTENANCE!!! Starting tomorrow, the Armstrong path maybe closed for maintenance for a few days. We don’t have any other info, but will share when we do!

We are hoping to make some improvements - stay tuned for fall planting! 🌱🌸
🪧 But first, we want to acknowledge the new signs. LA Rec&Parks has decided that dogs are allowed in the Meadow because there is no enforceable code to keep them out. This has been a longstanding issue of community concern, and was not our decision.
🐕 They’ve taken down the “no dogs allowed” signs and added these instead. Off-leash dogs are not permitted, here or elsewhere in LA County (except dog parks and private yards), and you absolutely must clean up the 💩. Rangers will still stop by and write tickets for both offenses.
🚲 Second, we don’t know when/why/how the bike racks all disappeared! But we’re working with Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez to get some new ones, here and at the rec center.
📝Comment if you have other requests for this community center/park?
😇 We welcome your help and support - all volunteers over here.

Thanks again to our great group of volunteers!!! We braved the heat, weeded, pruned, and spread more mulch ahead of the hot summer months. AND we removed a large invasive pepper tree to make room for more native plants in the fall.
We do this monthly, so come join the fun and touch some soil/grass/other plants!

It’s summer! It’s warm and the plants are thriving! Come Saturday morning to mulch, prune and garden at the Meadow and the Armstrong path. Meet your neighbors! Have the satisfaction of voluneering to improve the landscape!

We’re starting earlier this time, 8:30, to beat the heat. Stay as long or as briefly as you like. Meet at the north end of the Silver Lake Meadow with your water bottle and work gloves and we’ll provide the rest.
