ABOUT SILVER LAKE RESERVOIRS CONSERVANCY (SLRC)
The Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy (SLRC), established in 1988, is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and enhancing the historical, aesthetic, ecological and recreational benefits of Silver Lake’s open waters and surrounding open space. SLRC works to reflect community preferences regarding the property and advocates

accordingly. While the reservoirs are part of the city water supply system, the SLRC will provide education about water quality, projects, and their impacts on the community. SLRC’s vision is to facilitate the transition of the decommissioned reservoir property and to explore new opportunities regarding open space, education, recreation, watershed, wildlife, native plants, natural habitats and land use once the reservoirs go off line.

Thank you Garden Volunteer! We w**ded, spread mulch, and trimmed some shrubs. And we continued to battle invasive Mustard, pulling before it could set seed for next year.
Why, you may ask? The bright yellow flowers are cheerful, but…
Cal IPC (the CA Invasive Plant Council) says “Brassica nigra (black mustard) is a winter annual herb/forb (family Brassicaceae). Like other mustards, black mustard grows profusely and produces allelopathic chemicals that prevent germination of native plants. The spread of black mustard can increase the frequency of fires in chaparral and coastal sage scrub, changing these habitats to annual grassland. It is native to regions of North Africa, temperate regions of Europe, and parts of Asia.”

This coyote has been spotted on Kenilworth and West Silver Lake Drive during daylight hours two days in a row. It is likely sick with mange caused by eating a poisoned rodent. It can be treated but we need to know where it’s hanging out to deliver the medicine it needs. If you see this coyote in the area, please DM us with the time and location and we’ll try to get it some help. Thank you, and don’t use rat poison!

This Saturday, 9-Noon! (Though you can of course come late and/or leave early - we won’t snitch.) Come w**d, mulch, water and tend to native plantings at the reservoirs. Also meet your neighbors and fellow volunteers. Bring a hat, gloves and a water bottle and we’ll help you with the rest. Check in at the north end of the Meadow.
