😎 2026-27 PRODUCING FELLOWSHIP - PAID GIG!

PlayGround is excited to announce immediate openings to join the 2026-27 Producing Fellowship, designed to foster the next generation of leadership for the American Theatre. We are looking for individuals passionate about theatre and looking to make an impact on the field while developing the skill set to do so for a living. Candidates must reside in one of the four PlayGround regions (LA, SF, NY, or Chicago). Four (4) fellows will be selected with one (1) drawn from each of the four (4) PlayGround regions. Particularly, in filling these roles, we will give weight and priority to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled applicants with the hope of employing diverse voices who can continue to hone their producing skills in a collaborative environment. Applications are due by 11:59pm on May 31, 2026, with a target start date of August 1, 2026, running through July 31, 2027.

In this hands-on masterclass, acclaimed playwright Rachel Bublitz shares exercises, prompts, and creative strategies from her new book How to Build a Playwright in Three Acts, designed to help writers at any stage develop their voice, strengthen their craft, and move their work forward.

Rachel Bublitz is an award winning and internationally produced playwright known for telling stories about women, and creating exciting new work for young performers. Her play Funny, Like An Abortion received a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere by Mile Square Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, and The VORTEX. She received the prestigious Will Glickman Award for the best premiere play in the San Francisco Bay Area for her full-length Ripped.

Applications are now being accepted for PlayGround’s first annual TWISTED HOLIDAY FESTIVAL, November 27-December 20, at Potrero Stage and simulcast. This four-week “fringe style” new works festival will feature up to 20 productions and 60 performances of new holiday-themed works (with a twist!) by talented theatre artists from across the country including PlayGround artists based in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

PlayGround’s Twisted Holiday Festival welcomes applications from seasoned theatre professionals, first-time producers, and all-star performers in every aspect of live performance, direction, and choreography. Productions will be presented for 3 performances at Potrero Stage (18th Street @ Arkansas),

PlayGround invites early-career and aspiring directors resident in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, NYC or Chicago to apply for the one-year Directing Apprenticeship program. The deadline to apply is 11:59pm on June 30, 2026.

Selections will be announced on or before August 1. Directing apprentices will assist professional directors for 3 rounds of the Monday Night PlayGround staged reading series (90 minutes of rehearsal and a brief tech for each round) and will then have their Monday Night PlayGround directing debut in one of the remaining month.

It’s 44 BCE, and Julius Caesar has been assassinated. Now, two siblings find themselves at the center of a deadly power struggle. Octavian wants his destiny. Octavia wants to be safe. Both of them want what’s good for each other, but what is”good” when you’re building an empire? In conversation with Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, GOOD ROMANS is a play about power, patriarchy–and poetry. A PlayGround commission.

Baylee Shlichtman writes plays about love, autonomy, and magic in the mundane. Recently, her work has been featured with Full Circle Players Emerging Voices, EST/ LA Winterfest, and Afterlife Fest.
