South Los Angeles Hosts Revolutionary Community Edutainment Venue: “This Place LA”
Los Angeles, CA — In the heart of South Los Angeles, just steps from the historic intersection of Florence and Normandie—infamously known as the flashpoint of the 1992 Rodney King riots—a new beacon of creativity, culture, and community transformation has taken root.
This Place LA, launched in the summer of 2012 by the Five Points Youth Foundation, is a community-based outdoor venue designed to empower digital creators and public service providers to co-produce family-friendly edutainment events. It provides a safe and secure space for collaboration, creativity, and cultural healing—right at the corner of Florence and Western.
“In the digital age, the power of storytelling and creative production is now in the hands of the people,” said Andrew Williams Jr., President of Five Points Youth Foundation. “This Place LA is our response—a venue where creators and changemakers can turn struggle into strength and make media that matters.”
Rather than rely on expensive infrastructure or elite access, This Place LA encourages creators to “start with the man in the mirror,” embracing their immediate circle of influence and using imagination as a resource multiplier. This model reflects the values of H.I.P.H.O.P.—Higher Inner Power Helping/Helping Other People—to uplift, inspire, and transform both content and community.
Named as a reflection of Hollywood’s dual legacy of glamour and heartbreak, “This Place LA” recognizes the many untold stories of failure, growth, and redemption that form the real engine of cultural progress.
For every dream deferred, there lies an opportunity for a breakthrough. This outdoor venue celebrates those “along-the-way” lessons and welcomes digital creators to write new beginnings, grounded in purpose and community.
In a time when global headlines often amplify conflict and violence, This Place LA is charting a different path—fostering an environment where abundance, unity, and visionary storytelling can thrive in the open air of South Los Angeles.
