Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to cancel our event in Torrance for Coldplay USA this Saturday. The event itself is still happening, however RPCVLA is no longer able to have someone onsite to coordinate for our group. We apologize for any inconvenience.

BUT, Comedy of Errors at Griffith Park Sunday evening is still on!

This weekend we have a couple of fun events lined up! They are outdoors and picnic style. So bring your food, chairs, blankets, etc. On Saturday, August 29th there's a Coldplay USA Tribute Band at the Wilson Park Amphitheatre in Torrance. And on Sunday, August 30th there's Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare Under the Stars in Griffith Park. There's free parking at both events. Please RSVP so we know how much space to save. We hope to see you there! 🤗

Thank you to OC RPCV's!! We attended their 3rd Annual SoCal Peace Corps Jamboree. It was loads of fun hanging out with RPCVs by the lake and staying cool for the summer. ☀️💦😎

RPCVLA attended this year's Peace Corps Conference in Washington D.C.! It was truly inspiring to be surrounded by fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteers from across the nation and listen to motivational speakers and panelists. Plus, we got to go to Captiol Hill and advocate for the Peace Corps with some of our California Reps. Until next conference in San Diego, CA! 🤗

RPCVLA has been named a finalist for the National Peace Corps Association's 2026 Loret Miller Ruppe Award, honoring our work with the Jean M. Yamanaka Peace Corps Memorial Fund.

What started with a single $100 gift given in Jean’s memory has grown into nearly 50 years of impact. Since 1976, the fund has awarded more than $46,000 in grants supporting projects in Peace Corps countries and Los Angeles.

Now we have a chance to be recognized for it — but we need your vote! Voting closes Sunday, July 19th at 11am PDT.

PEACE CORPS FUNDING UPDATE (Thursday, June 25th, 1:00 PM Eastern): A short while ago, the leadership of the House of Representatives announced the cancellation today of votes on several bills, including the international affairs appropriations bill (H.R. 8595). Debate on that bill was slated to include consideration and a floor vote on the Perry amendment ( #137), which calls for eliminating all funding for the Peace Corps in Fiscal Year 2027. This decision followed a news conference held by members of the House Freedom Caucus, who stated their opposition to advancing legislation until Congress passes the so-called “SAVE America Act” regarding voting regulations. The Senate is currently scheduled to be out of town for the next two weeks. And while the House may return to floor work on Monday, it is possible they will decide to also be in recess through July 11.
