💜 Women’s Equality Day — August 26

Today, we honor the women who fought for the right to vote and recognize the continued work toward equality, accessibility, inclusion, and opportunity for all women.

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, a major milestone in voting rights in the United States. We also recognize that equal access to voting was not immediately a reality for all women, and the work toward full equality continues.

Let’s celebrate women’s voices, leadership, ideas, and achievements — including Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and DeafDisabled women in our communities.
Together, we can help create a future where every woman has a fair opportunity to learn, lead, participate, and succeed.

Carmen (medium-length black curly hair and wears eyeglasses and a gray shirt with the CODIE logo): Today is August 26, Women’s Equality Day. On this day, we remember the brave women who have worked hard so women could have the right to vote. Before 1920’s women did not have the right to vote. In 1920, the 19th Amendment became official in recognition of August 26th as Women’s Equality Day.
Rosángela (long dark hair and wears a shirt with the CODIE logo): A bill was presented by Rep. Bella Abzug from New York, which guaranteed women the right to vote.
Graphic Video: A short vertical graphic honoring Women’s Equality Day features a black-and-white photograph of U.S. Representative Bella Abzug smiling and wearing her signature wide-brimmed hat. Her name, “Rep. Bella Abzug,” appears in large white text against a blue background. A black silhouette of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline appears below, highlighting Abzug’s connection to New York and her role in establishing Women’s Equality Day. Image in the video: President Gerald Ford sits at a large wooden desk signing a document while a diverse group of women stands around him in the White House. The women wear colorful 1970s-era dresses, suits, and hats as they watch the signing. The historic photograph documents a moment connected to the federal recognition of Women’s Equality Day. Gloria (wears a green top): We must keep on working today. Let’s celebrate Women’s voices, ideas, and achievements. And let’s do our part to make sure everyone has a fair chance to learn, lead and succeed.
The reel ends with a colorful blue-and-pink “Women’s Equality Day” graphic featuring silhouettes of diverse women and a glowing butterfly.

🌈♿ July is Disability Pride Month! ♿🌈

This month, we celebrate the strength, diversity, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities. Disability Pride is about embracing identity, promoting inclusion, and recognizing that disability is a natural part of human diversity.

At GLAD, TCGLAD, CODIE, DHHSC, B-GLAD and LIFESIGNS, we are proud to support and advocate for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, and all individuals with disabilities. Together, we continue to build communities where everyone belongs and has equal access to opportunities.

✨ Disability is not a limitation—it is a part of who we are.

✨ Every voice matters.

✨ Every person deserves respect, accessibility, and inclusion.

Join us in celebrating Disability Pride Month and honoring the unique experiences, talents, and resilience of our community.
