The 2026 World Cup⚽️ is the largest in history, with 48 teams👥, 104 matches🏟️, and three host countries🇨🇦🇲🇽🇺🇸. But it’s also one of the biggest media businesses in the world. 🌍🏆

How you experience the tournament depends on more than who’s playing. It depends on who owns the broadcast rights, which platforms carry the matches, what subscriptions you have, and how highlights and commentary reach your social media feeds. 📹📱

The World Cup isn’t just a sporting event—it’s a media event. Every broadcast, streaming service, sponsorship, and social media clip is part of a multibillion-dollar industry competing for your attention.

Critical media literacy asks us to look beyond the game:

⚽ Who controls access to the World Cup?
📺 How do streaming services and broadcast rights shape who gets to watch?
💰 Who profits from the world’s biggest sporting event?
📱 How do social media platforms influence the stories and moments that go viral?

What happens when the “default” beauty ideal isn’t the most desired person in the villa? 🏝️🔥

A recent Love Island USA conversation sparked debate online after contestant, Kenzie, expressed surprise when another islander, Zach, shared that she wasn’t his usual “type.” Many TikTok creators and viewers interpreted the moment as part of a broader conversation about how media shapes beauty ideals and who is typically positioned as desirable in popular culture.

Rather than focusing on one contestant, this moment invites us to ask bigger questions:

💭 Who gets positioned as desirable in media?
💭 How do beauty standards change over time?
💭 What role does representation play in shaping our perceptions of attractiveness?

We asked high school students in Los Angeles, “How does social media perpetuate or challenge stereotypes?” 📲🤔

We were lucky to have brilliant students from Bravo High at the USC campus to showcase their projects created using our critical media literacy curriculum! 🎥🎨

The upcoming Michael biopic revisits the life of a global music icon but also raises important questions about race, identity, and representation. 🎤🎥👤

From his changing appearance to his public image, Michael Jackson’s identity has always been complex and contested in the media.

Through a media literacy lens, we can ask: 🔎
How is that complexity being constructed for audiences? What story about Michael Jackson are we being invited to believe?

On Mother’s Day, we celebrate mothers, but it’s also worth reflecting on how the media represents motherhood. 🌷🎥

Portrayals vary from overwhelmed moms to “perfect” caretakers. These depictions inevitably shape what we expect from mothers.

What version of motherhood is being normalized in these depictions? Is there a “perfect” way to be a mother? 🤱🏾

IS BACK for Season 3 ✨

Stylized makeup, and experimental fashion have become central to Euphoria’s visual identity. Essentially, the show actively constructs what adolescence and self-expression look like onscreen.

💭 How does Euphoria shape real-world beauty trends? What is Hollywood’s role in amplifying specific stylistic trends?
