The work of InnerCity Struggle demonstrates that youth and parents working together are a powerful force for improving their communities and making real change. InnerCity Struggle has also educated and empowered thousands of Eastside voters to be heard at the ballot box on critical issues impacting our communities.

Our communities have always protected and supported one another. Whether it's sharing fruit from your trees with neighbors, connecting with others to access resources, or sharing skills with friends, we are building the world we want to see!

In the 1970s, at the height the drug epidemic in the South Bronx, community revolutionaries saw hospitals in the South Bronx were inadequate in serving its community.

The Young Lords, the Black Panther Party, IWK and other revolutionaries took over the hospital an established The People’s Drug Program. One of the team members, Mutulu Shakur, Tupac’s stepdad, a prominent member of the Republic of New Afrika and affiliated with the Black Panthers, saw acupuncture’s potential efficacy in treating substance use disorders.

This is your reminder that elections are coming up this November, and Trump and his billionaire buddies will continue to rig the rules to raise prices, protect their own pockets, and make it harder for us, the working people, to get by.

At this point, grocery shopping feels like a game of “what’s getting recalled this week?” 🙃 We should be able to trust that the food we feed ourselves and our families is SAFE.

The IC3 invasion of Los Angeles, which sparked protests throughout our state, has affected all of us on the Eastside, including street vendors, panaderías, and more. We spoke with small business owners to understand the economic impact of the IC3 raids on their ability to make ends meet and to hear how they have observed changes in the community.

This is your reminder to support small businesses and check in with your loved ones and neighbors.🫂 Our communities are strongest when everyone can live, work, and contribute without fear. ♥️

Most people believe “the system” is rigged, 70% according to . This makes it a great place to start your narrative change work.

However, different values-based groups have differing opinions on how systems are rigged, who benefits, and who is harmed.
For many, framing a fix as a moral obligation won’t land. Instead, we can try framing solutions as practical, risk-reducing “hacks” to surviving what many of us agree is an incompetent status quo.

To read more about this and learn how the different values-based groups we studied see the systems around us as rigged, and what they think needs to be done to fix them:

The first day of school should be a day filled with excitement and joy, NOT the continuous reminder of the ways corporations continue to make riches out of exploiting our labor and polluting our air and waters. That's why we will continue to show up and make our voices heard to elect and hold leaders accounatble and prioritize our families and neighborhoods.

At Eastman Avenue Elementary School, the noxious smell of rotting food from the Lineage warehouse less than a mile away was unmistakable as parents dropped off their children around 7:45 a.m. for the first day of school.

At an entrance gate, school workers welcomed students and handed out kid-sized KN95 masks to anyone interested.

Many parents shared their frustrations over their children going back to school while the effects of the Lineage warehouse fire continue to torment their community.
