At Mema House, we believe play is so much more than keeping children busy. It’s a way to learn about their bodies, explore their senses, build confidence, practice self-advocacy, develop resilience, and create meaningful connections with the people around them.✨💕

We love creating spaces where children can show up exactly as they are.

Where movement is encouraged, messy play is welcome, big feelings have a place, and there is no “perfect” way to play. 🌈

And we don’t just want children to experience this, we want families and caregivers to have the tools to carry these experiences into everyday life.

💦 DIY REUSABLE WATER BALLOONS! 💦

Looking for an easy summer activity that gets the kids OFF the screens and INTO sensory play? Try these reusable water balloons made from sponges! 🧽💦

✨ WHY WE LOVE WATER PLAY:
Water play gives kids a chance to explore textures, temperature, cause & effect, and movement while encouraging hands-on sensory exploration. It can also be a fun way to practice coordination, grasping, squeezing, and turn-taking, all while simply PLAYING & HAVING FUN!

🛒 YOU’LL NEED:
• Sponges 🧽
• Zip ties OR rubber bands
• Scissors ✂️
• A bucket or bin of water💦

🛠️HOW TO MAKE THEM:
Cut your sponges into strips, bundle them together, and secure the middle tightly with a zip tie or rubber band. (If using zip ties,make sure to cut it down super close to the center of the sponges) Dunk them in water, squeeze, toss, repeat! 💦

Netflix I’m ready 🎙️

But seriously… healing your inner child sometimes looks like letting your kids make the mess you weren’t allowed to make.✨

The sensory play. The messy hands. The mixed-up colors. The “what happens if I do THIS?” experiments. 😂

Because play isn’t just a mess to clean up. It’s how children explore, problem-solve, create, communicate, and learn about the world around them.

And those sensory experiences can help support nervous system regulation, giving kids opportunities to move, problem-solve, and practice staying engaged even when things don’t go exactly as planned.❤️

At Mema House, we believe children deserve opportunities to learn through sensory play, movement, and hands-on experiences that support self-advocacy, resilience, and nervous system regulation.💕🧠 ..and sometimes that includes mixing the play dough colors 😅🌈

And as parents, we’re learning too.
We may not have gotten to mix the Play-Doh… but our kids can. 😂💛
