Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center

Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center Welcome to the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center

At the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center (LA CRC), we support family caregivers in LA County who help an adult relative or friend (over the age of 18) affected by chronic and debilitating health conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrovascular diseases (such as stroke or aneurysms), degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and multiple sclerosis, and traumatic

brain injury (TBI), among many others. Caregivers help with one or more of the following tasks: physical care (getting in and out of bed), making health care decisions, cooking, cleaning, yard work, managing medications and going to doctor visits, making important decisions, shopping for groceries and other items, legal issues, help with bill-paying, bathing and dressing, or providing transportation. LA CRC is a program of the USC Family Caregiver Support Center (USC FCSC), which is the community service arm of the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology.

Many male caregivers spend so much time focusing on the needs of others that finding support for themselves falls to the bottom of the list. But caregiving is not meant to be done in isolation. 💌 Building a support network can help reduce stress, provide practical assistance, and create space to care for your own well-being, too.

This , remember that caring for yourself is part of caring for someone else.

Brain health is part of overall health, and the small things we do every day can make a difference over time. 🧠

During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, it's a good reminder that movement, connection, rest, lifelong learning, and other healthy habits all play a role in supporting overall well-being. Whether you're caring for yourself or a loved one, investing in brain health is an investment in quality of life.

Many caregivers assume support groups are only for people in crisis or that participation means sharing deeply personal details. 🤔 In reality, support groups can offer a space to learn, connect, and hear from others who understand the caregiving journey.

As the days get longer and summer gets underway, it's a good opportunity to check in on your caregiving journey. ☀️ Consider what has changed, what is working well, and whether any plans or supports need to be updated. Regular check-ins can help caregivers stay proactive and prepared as needs evolve.

Medical language, appointments, and care plans can feel like a lot to process — especially when you’re focused on caring for someone you love. 🩺 Having a clearer understanding of medical terms and care instructions can help caregivers feel more confident, informed, and prepared to support their loved one’s care.
