History
---
Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) unites a broad alliance of veteran, youth, student and community organizations to advocate for Filipino American World War II veterans' full equity under the law. On February 18, 1946, the United States Congress passed the Rescission Act, which effectively and unjustly nullified the veteran benefits promised to all Filipinos who served unde

r the direction of the United States military during World War II. Today, despite the twilight of their years, Filipino American veterans continue to fight for recognition long overdue and JFAV is committed to fighting with them every single step of the way until justice is finally achieved for every single soldier who selflessly answered the call of duty. IF CONGRESSPERSON HAS NOT SPONSORED:

Hello,

My name is ________________, and I am one of your constituents. On behalf of the remaining 15,000 Filipino World War II Veterans both living in the United States and the Philippines and their 68,000 survivors, we ask for your support and sponsorship of HR 3865 (Filipino Veterans Fairness Act), a recently reintroduced bill by Representative Jackie Speier's office of the 14th District of California.

It is not too late to recognize Filipino World War II veterans and their wartime service as American veterans as promised by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It is not too late to correct this historical misstep of 71 years. While the recently passed Congressional Gold Medal Act is an admirable step towards recognition and one the veterans want, let us be reminded about the ongoing struggle of veterans fighting for full equity. Let us remember the veterans' courage and sacrifices by recognizing the 75th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March where 80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war were forced to endure 100 km of severe abuse and torture. Let us honor the veterans with your support and sponsorship of HR 3865 (Filipino Veterans Fairness Act).

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,
___________

IF CONGRESSPERSON HAS SUPPORTED:

Hello,

My name is ________________, and I am one of your constituents. On behalf of the remaining 15,000 Filipino World War II Veterans both living in the United States and the Philippines and their 68,000 survivors, we thank you for your continued support and sponsorship of HR 3865 (Filipino Veterans Fairness Act), a recently reintroduced bill by Representative Jackie Speier's office of the 14th District of California.

As this year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Bataan Death March where 80,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war were forced to endure 100 km of severe abuse and torture; it is critical to gather more support and sponsorship for the Filipino Veterans Fairness Act to honor the veterans' courage and sacrifices.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best,

TODAY IS BATAAN DAY: On April 9th, 1942, 67,000 Pilipinxs were prisoners of war and forced to march 87 miles wherein approximately 10,000 died. We are taught that 260,000 Pilipinxs served in WWII, but what about when the military service of 250,000 was exclusively deemed inactive by the Rescission Act of 1946? We kick off Pilipinx Visibility Week on 9 different campuses across Southern California by fighting for our hxstory to be a requirement, not an elective. This week's schedule to be released soon. SAVE THE DATE on Saturday 4/15 for "Resistance is Stronger: Mas Malakas ang Pakikibaka" where all schools convene with performances, guest speakers, and more at Pilipino Workers Center in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles from 6-8 pm.
