HCM AWARENESS 🤍
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is often called the invisible disease because so many people look “fine” while their heart is working overtime.

Awareness means learning the signs
Awareness means listening to your body
Awareness means earlier diagnosis, better care, and saved lives

Common signs & symptoms:
Shortness of breath — especially with activity
Chest pain or pressure
Heart palpitations or racing heartbeat
Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
Fainting or near fainting
Extreme fatigue that doesn’t make sense
Exercise intolerance
Swelling in the legs, ankles, or abdomen

And sometimes, there are no symptoms at all, which is why family history and cardiac screening matter.

For many of us, the diagnosis came after years of being told
“you’re just anxious”
“you’re just out of shape”
“your tests are normal”

You are not dramatic
You are not weak
You are not imagining it

You are living with a real, life-altering heart condition.

At Twice the Heart, awareness is more than medical
it’s emotional
it’s mental
it’s the identity shift
it’s learning how to live, grieve, adapt, and still find joy.

If you are newly diagnosed
If you are still searching for answers
If you have been living with HCM for years

You are not alone here 🤍

Know the signs
Trust your body
Advocate for your heart
Protect your mental health

Because every heartbeat deserves to be understood.

It’s Heart Month.

And something that is not talked about enough is how heart disease turns you into a full time decision maker.

Every day is:

Can I do this
Should I eat that
Is this symptom normal
Do I have enough energy
Is it worth the crash later

It sounds small.

But making hundreds of body based decisions a day is mental exhaustion.

There’s no autopilot anymore.

Nothing is casual.

And over time that changes you.

You become hyper aware.
Hyper responsible.
Hyper tuned into your limits.

Not because you want to be
but because you have to be.

That’s not just physical.

That’s cognitive load.
That’s emotional fatigue.
That’s mental health.

So if you feel tired in a way that sleep doesn’t fix

it might not be your body

it might be the constant management of being alive in it.

02/12/2026

Heart disease can make you feel invisible.

Invisible in rooms full of people.
Invisible in doctor’s offices.
Invisible in your own body.

It can make you feel broken.
Unfixable.
Like this is somehow your fault.
Like you did something to deserve it.
Like the universe singled you out.

And when your symptoms don’t “look” dramatic, when you’re smiling, dressed, functioning, the isolation gets louder.

You start to question yourself.
Am I exaggerating?
Am I weak?
Why can’t I just push through?

But here’s the truth:
You are not broken.
You are not being punished.
And this is not a cosmic debt you owe.

Heart disease is not a moral failure.
It is not a character flaw.
It is not a reflection of your worth.

This month, we honor the invisible battles.
The quiet fatigue.
The grief.
The anger.
The loneliness.

And we remind you — if no one else has —
You are seen here.
You are believed here.
You are not alone here.

That’s why Twice the Heart exists.

Today we Wear Red for Heart Disease, but at Twice the Heart Foundation, red represents more than awareness. It represents the millions of individuals living with heart conditions who are navigating not only physical symptoms, but the emotional weight that comes with them. It represents the anxiety before appointments, the grief of lifestyle changes, the resilience it takes to keep going, and the courage to advocate for your own care.

Heart disease does not just affect the body. It impacts mental health, identity, relationships, and the way someone moves through the world. That is why we are committed to supporting the whole human, not just the diagnosis, through community, holistic wellness, education, and compassionate spaces for healing.

Today we wear red in honor of every heart warrior and every family walking beside them. You are not alone.

It’s Heart Disease Month. ❤️

And while everyone talks about symptoms, medications, and procedures…
I want to talk about the mental health side.

Because living with heart disease isn’t just physical.

It’s the anxiety before appointments.
It’s the fear when a new symptom shows up.
It’s the grief of the life you thought you’d have.
It’s the exhaustion of constantly monitoring your own body.

Heart disease impacts the nervous system, the mind, the identity; not just the heart muscle.

This month isn’t just about awareness.

It’s about acknowledging the emotional weight patients carry every single day.

Your fear is valid.
Your fatigue is real.
Your mental health matters just as much as your cardiac function.

You are not weak for struggling.
You are human.

And you deserve support both physically and emotionally.

We’ve been a little quiet…not because the work stopped, but because life asked us to listen more closely.

Twice the Heart exists for the in-between moments.
The days when healing isn’t linear.
When strength looks like rest.
When showing up looks different than it used to.

This season, we’re moving slower.
Listening deeper.
Letting the heart lead, not the hustle.

If you’re here, still breathing, still trying…you belong. 🤎
