95% of church leaders are not trained for formal ministry – and most minister in urban poverty situations. We partner with churches, organizations, and denominations to ensure leaders are empowered to build healthy churches in every community of poverty. Our Core Ministry Programs:

Church-Based Seminary
The World Impact Urban Ministry Institute resources and trains urban church leaders. We provid

e affordable and accessible seminary-based training for men and women in communities of poverty everywhere. Urban Church Planting
Our Evangel School of Urban Church Planting trains Christian workers to plant healthy churches among the urban poor. This training is specifically designed to equip teams to reach under-resourced communities. Prison Ministry
Through our Onesimus Workshops, we train church leaders and workers to succeed in discipling those who have been incarcerated. We also offer Church-Based Seminary for those who are behind bars. Trauma Healing
World Impact’s Trauma Healing Program equips urban ministry workers and leaders to facilitate Bible-based healing groups. Participants can choose to be trained to lead their own healing groups, exponentially expanding the ministry. For more than 50 years, we’ve affirmed the call and vocation of local urban church pastors and ministry leaders who want to transform their cities through the Gospel. Are you ready to join us as we seek to build a healthy church in every community of poverty?

Every day, teenagers in communities experiencing poverty are carrying pain that many adults never see — anxiety, violence, grief, loneliness, and instability at home. Su***de rates among teens continue to rise, and many young people are struggling without safe, trusted adults to help them process the trauma they carry.

Through Teen Trauma Healing, World Impact equips pastors, youth leaders, and ministry workers with biblical truth and practical trauma care tools so they can walk alongside hurting teens with compassion and hope.

One young leader recently shared that if she had received this kind of Christ-centered support as a teenager, it could have changed the course of her life.

Right now, a generous donor has provided a $40,000 challenge gift to help expand this ministry before June 30.

Will you answer the challenge and help bring healing and hope to vulnerable teens?

Healing goes where God leads!

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? | am making a way in the wilderness & streams in the wasteland."

Many of us entered ministry, community development, and poverty work because we care deeply. But somewhere along the way, compassion can become control. We begin believing that everything depends on us: our effort, our plans, our ability to fix what is broken.

The truth is that transformation was never ours to manufacture. God invites us to participate in His work, not replace Him in it.

In Redemptive Poverty Work: Expanded Edition, Dr. Alvin Sanders challenges leaders, pastors, and practitioners to move beyond saviorism and rediscover a healthier, more biblical approach to serving others. One rooted in trust, relationship, and dependence on God.

What happens when church leaders are equipped to serve the communities they already know and love?

In San Diego, the answer looks like pastors walking neighborhood streets, building relationships over time, and faithfully serving people where they are. What started with one leader trained through World Impact is now growing into a movement of equipped leaders investing deeply in their community.

TUMI training is helping local churches raise up leaders who bring both truth and compassion to neighborhoods experiencing poverty.

In a world that celebrates productivity, it’s easy to lose sight of the people behind the work. Real transformation comes from presence, relationship, and walking with people the way Christ did, not from checking boxes.

If you’ve ever felt the tension between serving effectively and serving compassionately, Redemptive Poverty Work: Expanded Edition is a must-read. This book challenges the way we think about helping others and offers a more sustainable, Christ-centered approach to serving communities experiencing poverty.

Learn how to do the work without losing your soul in the process.
