I almost don’t want to like my job as much as I do. Sometimes I think I need to branch out and do more. Sometimes I think I’ll start something new. But then before an event, I find myself looking over the audience, praying to God to put the right words into my mouth to raise money for, in this case, literacy programs for deaf children. Deaf children often graduate high school with a fourth grade reading ability, but when they work with No Limits For Deaf Children (No Limits for deaf children and families) programming, they are college ready. My events are the only thing that I regularly pray over. Silly to think sometimes I want to do something else when I care more about this than I’ve ever cared about the outcome of almost any other thing. And when I’m lucky, my job comes with a goodie bag!! Tonight was also extra fun on a personal note because a long time comedy idol of mine Judy Carter was in the audience. Her book The Comedy Bible was literally my bible when I started doing open mics in Florida 20 years ago. To have her come over and say hello afterwards was dazzlingly cool, to be able to talk briefly about what we are doing with our careers in public speaking was just like WOW!!! 🤩
