Global First Ladies Alliance

Global First Ladies Alliance First Ladies are powerful women leaders. and U.K. First Ladies Laura Bush, Rosalynn Carter, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Sarah Brown and Cherie Blair.

The Global First Ladies Alliance supports first ladies, individually and collectively, in their efforts to advance women’s leadership in all sectors of society. The position of First Lady is one of the most influential and visible roles on the world stage, yet it does not come with a job description. The Global First Ladies Alliance draws upon ten years of in-depth experience working with First La

dies and their offices to assist them as they set priorities, identify strategic partners, generate positive impact, and develop lasting legacies. Since 2008, our team has directly advised 45 First Ladies and their offices on programmatic and policy initiatives, and helped facilitate productive collaborations between First Ladies and nearly 30 global institutions. We also liaise with Presidents’ offices, ministries and other cabinet officials as their agendas align with First Ladies. As founders of the African First Ladies Initiative, we developed our methodology and curriculum in consultation with the offices of U.S. We have launched the Global First Ladies Alliance to scale our effort to a truly global audience.

”Every Child Deserves a Secure Future.”

Those words anchor the work of H.E. First Lady Kaone Boko of Botswana, and spending time with her in Gaborone this April only deepened our appreciation for the commitment behind them.

In a short time in office, First Lady Boko has launched MPEPU (Mme Boko’s Programme), distributed maternal and infant care booklets and maternity bags to mothers across Botswana, and published a Report to Society, a meaningful commitment to transparency and public accountability.

GFLA is proud to support First Lady Boko as she builds her platform in service of the children and families of Botswana.

Please join us in learning about and celebrating the history and power that developed within the walls of the East Wing of the White House.

'First ladies and their staffs witnessed history in the East Wing, a “place of purpose and service,” said Anita McBride, who worked there as chief of staff to first lady Laura Bush.

“Tearing down those walls doesn’t diminish the significance of the work we accomplished there,” McBride told The Associated Press.

“The East Wing was this physical space that had seen the role of the first lady evolve from a social hostess into a powerful advocate on a range of issues,” Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, who was policy director for first lady Michelle Obama, said in an interview.'

“Tearing down those walls doesn’t diminish the significance of the work we accomplished there."

GFLA Founder Cora Neumann welcomes First Ladies for our 3rd annual Academy. Excerpt: "Why do we work with First Ladies and First Partners? Because you are often the most trusted national figures. In a time of deep division, trust is power. You are not partisan actors— you are soft power leaders.

According to the 2024 Global Soft Power Index, countries like China ( #3) and Germany ( #5) are among the world’s most influential—not just due to their economic or military strength, but because they’re recognized for leadership in education, innovation, sustainability, and global trust. This matters in very real terms: stronger soft power translates into increased foreign investment, higher tourism, market access, and trade opportunities. In the same spirit, First Ladies wield this powerful, non-formal influence: your moral clarity, cultural connection, and trusted presence allow you to shift policies, reshape norms, attract resources, and build futures—without holding elected office. In a time of global distrust, your soft power is among our most valuable currencies of change.

So as we begin this Academy, we invite you to share openly, be vulnerable, reflect deeply, and collaborate intentionally. This space was built for you. The greatest strength of this program is not in the curriculum—it is in the power of your relationships and in your collective actions."

Thank you Harper's Bazaar for this excellent profile on our 3rd annual Global First Partners Academy.

One of the quotes that sums up the heart of this program: “These gatherings not only reduce the sense of polarization globally, they also inspire me personally,” says Hakobyan (First Lady of Armenia). “I return home feeling more empowered, more enthusiastic, and less alone. Instead of isolation or frustration, I feel connected to a greater purpose and more committed than ever to addressing the challenges facing my own country.”

🌐 From 8 to 10 July, the Global First Partners Academy took place in New York — a high-level event established by our partner organisation, the Global First Ladies Alliance.

This was the third annual academy, bringing together First Ladies and Gentlemen from around the world to strengthen leadership skills, learn from one another, and build lasting connections across countries.

📌 This year’s programme focused on key topics such as:
– improving women’s health through AI-powered tools;
– supporting young people in an age of constant change;
– discovering a personal leadership style in the role of a First Lady or Gentleman.

The Academy also explored the creation of a new Alumni and Former First Partners Network — a platform designed to continue collaboration beyond official mandates.

👥 Among the participants were First Ladies from Africa, Latin America, and Europe, including Anna Hakobyan (Armenia), H.E. Rossana Briceno (Belize), Dr Lucrecia Peinado (Guatemala), Maricel Cohen de Mulino (Panama), Monica Chakwera (Malawi), Gueta Selemane Chapo (Mozambique), SEN. OLUREMI TINUBU, CON (Nigeria), First Lady Fatima Maada Bio (Sierra Leone), and others.

Many of them are also active members of international initiatives such as OAFLAD, Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network -SCLAN, ALMA or our Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen Global Platform.

👏 We congratulate our partners on the event and wish them continued success!

– покращення здоров’я жінок завдяки інструментам штучного інтелекту;
– підтримка молоді в епоху постійних змін;
