Clockshop is a multidisciplinary arts organization in Los Angeles that creates new conversations about art, politics, and urban space. We commission work by artists and writers, curate inclusive public programs about pressing social and political issues, and collaborate with institutions to strengthen the social fabric of our community and the world beyond. Our core activity is the production of y

ear-round commissions, conversations, and community events. We also bring this mission to our partnership with California State Parks on the Bowtie Project, an underused public space along the Los Angeles River. Clockshop does not accept unsolicited portfolios or proposals.

Join us Saturday, May 9 for Clockshop’s Kite Festival at Los Angeles State Historic Park from 2:00–6:00 PM. As part of Clockshop’s artist commissions, Christine Sun Kim () and Thomas Mader ()() will unveil an inflatable sculpture, ‘The Weather,’ which will take flight during the event.

Commissioned by Clockshop, artists Christine Sun Kim and Thomas Mader present “The Weather,” an inflatable sculpture set to take flight during the event.

“The Weather” includes five inflatable elements—a tongue, a pointed finger, and three clouds—that visualize the American Sign Language phrase “finger to the wind,” meaning “let’s hope for the best.” The installation reflects the uncertainty of the political climate in the United States and the future of the park, while also offering a sense of hope and playfulness.

RSVP to Clockshop’s Kite Festival, and explore FAQs and transit information at the link in our bio or (clockshop.org). Admission is free. A suggested donation of $5–10 helps us keep it that way.

Applications are now open! Do you know someone currently in 10th or 11th grade that lives and attends school in Northeast Los Angeles? If they are interested in the intersection of art, community, ecology, and political advocacy, we encourage you to pass this opportunity on to them.

Clockshop’s Art & Environmental Advocacy Youth Fellowship is a 6-week-long, cohort-based summer program for a small group of high school students in Northeast Los Angeles. Through workshops with subject matter experts, field trips, and collaborative projects, fellows explore their own neighborhoods through the lenses of art, urban design, environmental justice, and politics. The fellowship is tuition-free, and fellows directly receive a $2,500 award to be used towards future educational endeavors.

Earlier this month, you joined us for 'Listening by Moonrise,' presented in conjunction with 'Songs of Emerging Endangerment,' a sound installation by TJ Shin. We gathered in the park on picnic blankets and listened to performances by the sound-based collective Ears to the Ground and artist Ivana Dama.

After the performances concluded, Ivana invited the audience to engage directly with the siren disk, a custom instrument that generates sound through shifting air pressure. As the disk spins, air passes through its rotating perforations, producing fluctuations that sculpt and modulate sound waves in real time.

Join us again, this Sunday, February 22, from 2:00–4:00 PM for the closing of 'Songs of Emerging Endangerment' and a dynamic panel conversation with scholars and artists who study the histories and cultures of the Asian Pacific diaspora.

This event is free and open to the public.

'Songs of Emerging Endangerment' will be on view through Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Los Angeles State Historic Park
