We are delighted to announce the opening of Blue Roof’s Summer Artist in Residence, Mimi Doyo’s exhibition, Stay Awhile💐
Stay Awhile is a reflection on the fleeting nature of time and the quiet beauty found in everyday life. This body of work began from a desire to document a season of transition—holding onto the moments that make a home feel like home before stepping into a new chapter. As life changes and the people I love continue to grow alongside me, I find myself wanting to preserve the ordinary moments that often become our most cherished memories.
My interdisciplinary practice combines painting, poetry, and journaling to explore memory, family, and the quiet rituals of daily life. Drawing from personal experiences, I create paintings that preserve fleeting moments of light, care, and belonging.
Through familiar interiors, backyard gardens, shared meals, and evening light, I reflect on how love continues to endure through change. These ordinary scenes become a way of honoring the people and places that have shaped me.
I often think about the generations that came before me—their sacrifices, acts of care, and the ordinary lives they lived that made my own possible. Through painting, I consider family memory, grief, and the quiet inheritance of love that continues to shape who we become. While time moves forward and homes inevitably change, these moments remain alive through remembrance.
As I prepare to leave California and begin a new chapter, these paintings become both a farewell and a gesture of gratitude. They are an invitation to slow down, to linger, and to recognize that the most meaningful moments are often the ones that pass by quietly. In a world of constant movement, Stay Awhile asks us to pause, to notice, and to carry these moments with us wherever we go.
Come celebrate Doyo’s exhibition that explores themes of color, family, past and present spaces, and generational changes that transform the present. There will be traditional lumpia and a taco cart to celebrate🎉🎉🎉
