Trojan Debate Squad: British Parliamentary Team

Trojan Debate Squad: British Parliamentary Team The preeminent internationally competitive debate team at USC. Tuesday & Thursday, 7-9 PM @ ASC330 Everyone is welcome with absolutely no experience necessary.

The Trojan Parliamentary Debate Club is a student run club centered around structured debate in British Parliamentary format. BP format is impromptu debate, which means no research, no studying, no formal preparation of any kind -- every debater hears the topic at the same time and gets fifteen minutes to think up as many argumentative points as they can before the debate begins. This leads to exciting, fun, sometimes hilarious debates in a friendly setting. Meetings for Spring 2016 are Tuesdays and Thursdays in GFS 228 and ASC 225 respectively from 7-9 pm. We try to attend intercollegiate tournaments about once a month, and if you would like to debate at those then you must come to meetings to practice. At meetings we debate pretty much any topic that sounds interesting to us: philosophy, religion, sex, law, politics, education, sports policy, technology, medicine, war; individual debate motions range from the very narrow to the very broad, touching on anything that has two sides to the issue. You can even send us ideas if you have something you think would make a great debate. It's always interesting and always fun, and in the process you can improve your public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, and ability to think on your feet -- not to mention you'll learn a ton about a whole range of issues you might never have considered before.
