Postpartum care is more than a 6-week check-in. Full stop 💗

It’s physical recovery, mental health support, nourishment, rest, community, and ongoing care for mothers long after birth. Yet too many women are expected to navigate postpartum healing without the support they deserve.

At birthFUND, we believe postpartum care should be accessible, continuous, and rooted in dignity. Because caring for mothers shouldn’t be a privilege. 🤍

Flint, Michigan just made history and we are here for it.

The Rx Kids program is the first of its kind in Michigan. Pregnant women receive $1,500 mid-pregnancy, no strings attached. After birth, families receive $500 a month for the first year of the baby’s life.

The results speak for themselves. Fewer premature births. More moms entering prenatal care. Less financial stress during one of the most vulnerable times in a woman’s life.

Flint already carries the weight of multiple environmental crisis. Black maternal and infant mortality rates are disproportionately high in this country. This program addresses the root cause directly, poverty and financial instability during pregnancy.

This is what full community care looks like. Initiatives like birthFUND100 recognize that while midwifery care can hold space for birth, the community has to hold space for mothers.

🗣️Real question. Who do you think is more at risk of dying in America — a police officer on duty or a woman giving birth?

It’s the woman giving birth. Let that sink in.

The US has the highest maternal mortality rate of any developed nation. Over 80% of those deaths? Preventable. We’re not talking about rare tragedies. We’re talking about an epidemic hiding in plain sight. Full stop.

And here’s what nobody tells you — midwives are one of the most powerful solutions we already have. The countries with the most midwives have the fewest mothers dying. We have the data. We have the proof and we have the solutions.
