INSIDER SESSIONS: LOGLINE WORKSHOP — THE STICKY CONCEPT

Your logline is often the first, and sometimes only, chance to convince someone your story is worth reading. So how do you make it stick?

Join acclaimed screenwriter ELLEN SHANMAN, co-writer of upcoming Amazon feature, VOLTRON, starring Henry Cavill and Sterling K. Brown, for an energetic, highly interactive 90-minute workshop on turning your idea into a logline with real commercial impact.

Through live examples, Ellen will help you uncover the “engine” of your story, pressure-test the strength of your concept and explore the critical difference between a compelling situation and a truly marketable story.

PLUS — bring your own logline.

Attendees are invited to submit their loglines during registration for the chance to have them workshopped by Ellen live during the session, giving everyone the opportunity to learn from the process (optional).

Ellen’s credits include GALLAGHER GIRLS for Paramount, THE DIVISION for Netflix and NOTHING DAUNTED for Black Label Media. She also co-wrote the live-action adaptation of VOLTRON for Amazon MGM Studios, set for release in 2027.

Congratulations to Global Producers Exchange alumni Wooden Horse and Talent Gateway alumni Elise McCredie on the global release of their latest series, THE AIRPORT CHAPLAIN, starring AACTA Award winner Hugo Weaving, SLOW HORSES, and Shabana Azeez, breakout star of the Emmy®️ and Golden Globe®️-winning drama THE PITT!

Released today on SBS Australia and Netflix worldwide simultaneously, THE AIRPORT CHAPLAIN follows Tobias Wallace, played by Weaving, an unconventional chaplain at a busy international airport, and his new terminal manager, Mira, played by Azeez, who sees him as a liability rather than an asset.

This much-anticipated series, which has received rave reviews in Australia, was written by multi-award-winning screenwriter Elise McCredie, THE CLEARING, STATELESS, and based on an encounter that co-creator and Wooden Horse producer Jude Troy, THE CLEARING, had with a Melbourne Airport chaplain — who helped her recover both a lost handbag and her identity.

👏 A huge milestone for the team — congratulations to all involved!

Australians in Film is proud to announce Rose Flanagan as the most recent winner of On the Rise: Actor’s Edition #3

Selected from a highly competitive pool of Australian actors, Rose stood out to representatives from leading U.S. talent management companies including M88 MACRO, Mosaic Media Group, Justice & Ponder, Inc., Arise Artists Agency, Echo Lake Entertainment and Artists First.

A versatile Australian actor from Melbourne, Rose first gained recognition for her portrayal of Lauren in the cult-classic Chris Lilley series JA’MIE: PRIVATE SCHOOL GIRL.

Her credits span television, streaming and film, including CLASS OF ’07, BETTER MAN, HUMAN ERROR, GLITCH, FIVE BEDROOMS, GOLD DIGGERS, UTOPIA, WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS and HOW TO STAY MARRIED.

As the most recent On the Rise recipient, Rose will receive a one-on-one meeting with acclaimed U.S. casting director Kellie Roy, along with a spotlight feature across AiF’s website and social channels.

But you don’t have to take out the top spot to get noticed. Every On the Rise participant was seen by representatives from leading U.S. management companies, putting Australian actors directly in front of industry decision-makers and creating opportunities for connections well beyond the program.

AiF is opening doors, building bridges and championing Australian talent globally.

Exciting news! AiF’s Global Producer Exchange alumi Chloe Rickard and Jason Burrows of Jungle Entertainment latest series My Brilliant Career, an adaptation of Miles Franklin’s beloved Australian novel, is released on Netflix worldwide today!

The series marks an exciting milestone for Chloe and Jason, who participated in our inaugural Global Producers Exchange program in 2021.

Co-presented with Screen Australia, GPE supports Australian producers to build international skills, pursue foreign funding and forge global marketplace partnerships for local scripted film and television projects.

Through GPE, Chloe and Jason were matched with leading U.S. producer Michael Costigan of Aggregate Films (Ozark, Black Rabbit) as their mentor.

“One of those shows is My Brilliant Career, which we discussed with our selected mentor, producer Michael Costigan. Some of his insights were extremely helpful in pitching and mounting this show.

“We are also working directly with James Flannery as the Commissioning Executive from Netflix on MBC, who we met through GPE.”

A brilliant example of the global connections GPE was created to foster. Congratulations to Chloe, Jason and the entire My Brilliant Career team!
