Australians in Film and the were proud to co-host an afternoon reception honoring acclaimed, award-winning filmmaker Warwick Thornton in celebration of the retrospective of his extraordinary body of work, presented as part of Bleak Week by .

A pioneering voice in contemporary cinema, Thornton’s films have captivated audiences worldwide with their powerful storytelling, striking visual language, and profound exploration of Australia’s challenging history, culture, and place. We are thrilled to see his iconic work being showcased to Los Angeles audiences through this special retrospective.

More time to get in the room.

Due to overwhelming demand, applications for INSIDE A U.S. WRITERS’ ROOM — LIVE! COMEDY EDITION have been extended by one week.

Led by Sam Laybourne (ACAPULCO, BLACK-ISH, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT), this is a rare chance to step inside a real writers’ room and see how a series is built from the ground up.

Australians in Film is proud to announce Roman Delo as the winner of On the Rise: Actor’s Edition #2, powered by the Golden Globe Foundation.

Selected from a highly competitive global pool, Roman stood out to top Hollywood management companies including Untitled Entertainment, Entertainment 360, Burbidge Artists Entertainment, and Mainstay Entertainment.

A 2019 NIDA graduate, Roman’s credits span:
BUMP, NCIS: SYDNEY, TEN POUND POMS, HOME AND AWAY
His short film THE EVICTION (2025) won Best Australian Short Film at MIFF
On stage, he’s earned a Sydney Theatre Award nomination and led productions with Sydney Theatre Company + Belvoir

As part of On the Rise, participants gained exclusive access to industry masterclasses with leading U.S. casting, coaching, and acting talent—offering real insight into building an international career.

As this year’s recipient, Roman will receive a one-on-one meeting with U.S. casting director Lauren Grey.

What actually happens inside a U.S. TV comedy writers’ room?

Now you can see it happen live.

Australians in Film in partnership with the Australian Writers’ Guild is excited to announce the next next INSIDER SESSION series, inside a Live Online U.S. Comedy Writers’ Room led by acclaimed writer-producer Sam Laybourne.
Sam has written and produced on hit comedies, including ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, BLACK-ISH, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST, served as showrunner on ACAPULCO and was Co-Executive Producer on DMV for CBS.

Sam has written and produced on hit comedies including ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, BLACK-ISH, ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST, served as showrunner on ACAPULCO and was Co-Executive Producer on DMV for CBS.

Here’s how it works:
Session 1 – Learn the do’s and don’ts of pitching and surviving a U.S. writers’ room
Sessions 2–4 – Eight selected writers join Sam to break episode two of a pilot live, just like a real TV room

You can:
• Apply to join the writers’ room (scripts will be read by industry professionals)
• Register to observe and watch the creative chaos unfold

All registrants receive the pilot script in advance so you can follow the process in real time.
Pitch jokes. Watch the chaos. Learn how comedy actually gets made in a U.S. writers’ room.

Applicants for the “room” must be Australian citizens 18 years of age and older, and submit an original television episodic script plus a short statement.

AiF is pleased to share the Los Angeles screening of STRANGE CREATURES.

Taking place March 25 at Regal North Hollywood, the screening will be followed by a live Q&A with writer and director .boffin and co-lead , with also in attendance.

A darkly comic, character-driven story, STRANGE CREATURES follows two estranged brothers on a cross-country journey to scatter their mother’s ashes.

Doors open 6:30pm. Screening begins 7:15pm.
