HINDI KRIMEN UMUWI! IT IS NOT A CRIME TO GO BACK HOME! FROM THE PHILIPPINES TO THE US, STOP THE ATTACK ON ACTIVISTS!

Gabriela-LA is overjoyed and welcomes the news that Chantal Anicoche has returned home, but remains resolute in our demands that the NTF-ELCAC, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and PH government must be held accountable for the destruction and death they caused to the community in Abra de Ilog, Mindoro. They must also be held accountable for their unlawful detention of Chantal and many other activists, the physical and psychological torture the AFP uses on its captives, and refusal to provide immediate access to legal services and community care.

The PH government continues to paint Chantal as a criminal who deserves to be punished by the US. However, the real crime is the PH government’s ongoing terror on the Filipino people and the land. The AFP, under the NTF-ELCAC’s guise of “anti-terror,” actively targets community members, activists, human rights defenders, and journalists who choose to speak out about the government’s abuses and are fighting for better conditions in the homeland. Even international communities recognizes that the PH government and AFP has repeatedly committed severe atrocities and human rights violations, especially against women and children in the form of state-sanctioned violence, r*pe, and torture as a war tactic.

As Chantal arrives home, the AFP is calling for the US to enact disciplinary action and continue the PH’s terror-tagging. We’ve seen both the PH and US mirror each other in their fascist attacks on activists and impunity given to military personnel, such as with the recent murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti who are also painted as criminals for merely standing up against injustice. We denounce the US-Marcos’ regime’s blatant hypocrisy and stand firm with the organizers and masses rising up to resist their fascistic reign of terror!

We demand that from the US to the Philippines, stop the terror-tagging! End the culture of impunity! Expose the lies of the NTF-ELCAC & AFP! Abolish the NTF-ELCAC!

Filipino women are treated as nothing more than a global supply of cheap, disposable labor. From classrooms to caregiving, they are groomed to serve—not lead, not thrive, but to be exploited. Overseas Filipinas, who make up 58% of migrant Filipino workers, are forced to leave their families to survive—only to face wage theft, racism, abuse, and ICE terror in the U.S.

At this year’s People’s State of the Nation Address (PSONA) in LA, GABRIELA stood in unity with BAYAN, Malaya, Kabataan Alliance, NAFCON, and other orgs, alongside PSONAs held globally. While Marcos’s SONA painted a false picture of prosperity, we uplifted the truth: poverty, violence, and forced migration are rooted in U.S. imperialism and a Philippine government that abandons its people.

We exposed how Marcos shamelessly aligns with war criminals like Trump—signing lopsided deals that hand over our resources, allow 0% tariffs on U.S. imports, and tighten U.S. military control across the Philippines. He continues to sell out the country while our people suffer. These betrayals deepen poverty, displacement, and exploitation for Filipinos—both at home and abroad.

But even in the face of state violence and repression, we rise. From our community’s rapid response to recent ICE raids in LA to the nationwide relaunch of Tanggol Migrante Movement, we celebrate the growing power of resistance—fighting to protect the most vulnerable among us.

After rallying at the Philippine Consulate, we marched to the office of the overseas attaché of the PNP at the Salvadoran consulate—denouncing surveillance, militarization, and our government’s refusal to protect migrants.

PSONA reignited our revolutionary optimism—reminding us that we are not alone, and we are not powerless. It uplifted the National Democratic movement not just as a resistance, but as the solution: a path rooted in collective action, care for the people, and the fight for national sovereignty and a socialist future grounded in genuine land reform, national industrialization, and a truly democratic government that serves the masses.

On the morning of Monday, July 7, GABRIELA Los Angeles and the Tanggol Migrante Network mobilized in support of a press conference led by the Community Self Defense Coalition (CSDC), labor unions, healthcare workers, and other community allies to denounce ICE's ongoing presence inside Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital.

Since July 3, GABRIELA LA has been gathering in support of Milagro Solis Portillo, a migrant woman and patient at Glendale Memorial who was stalked and surveilled by ICE agents while receiving emergency medical care after being mistreated in ICE custody. For the past week, hospital administration has actively cooperated with ICE and their affiliated private security to maintain an intimidating presence, despite previously stating ICE was not allowed on hospital premises and while removing concerned community members trying to check on the patient's safety.

On Monday morning, when GABRIELA members returned to the hospital to connect with hospital workers and learn about the issues on the ground, employees shared that administration had advised them not to talk about ICE and hospital security eventually ordered organizers to leave the premises. Beyond the hypocrisy of hospital administration's actions, this suppression interferes with patients' ability to seek care safely and inhibits the caregiving work of the pre-dominantly migrant staff. During outreach at the hospital, we heard from patients who decided not to seek treatment for their health concerns due to the presence of ICE, and from healthcare workers who are afraid to speak out publicly for fear of retaliation.

"We've had patients that have a scheduled c-section who won't show up. We had a patient, she was scared to show up. We called because she was scheduled, and she's like 'I can't. I'm not leaving my house. I can't go outside. ICE is down the street.' People die if they don't seek care," an OB nurse in Glendale told us, sharing that patients are increasingly delaying care—even in critical cases—until it becomes an emergency. Hospitals are supposed to be places where people can feel safe to receive necessary treatment for their health and well-being, regardless of their background and status. By allowing ICE to maintain its presence in the hospital, Dignity Health is actively endangering this immigrant community of workers and patients.

This situation isn't unique to one patient or one hospital. It's part of a larger system of violence rooted in US imperialism. Many migrant women like Milagro come to the US seeking safety and economic survival after being displaced from their homelands by war, underdevelopment, and ecological destruction fueled by US policies that import workers from abroad. In fleeing those terrible conditions, migrants face criminalization and detention once they arrive. By allowing ICE into the lobby, Glendale Memorial Hospital extends the reach of imperialist violence, turning a place of healing into an outpost of fascist state control.

GABRIELA LA condemns Dignity Health's collusion with ICE, and calls for ICE out of Glendale Memorial! Healthcare is a human right. Hospitals should be sanctuaries, not checkpoints. We demand ICE out of all hospitals now, out of our communities now, and condemn the imperialist violence they represent—from the border to the bedside. Currently, the family of Milagro, alongside community organizers, are holding nightly protests at 6:00 pm outside of the Hospital to hold them accountable for every day they allow the surveillance, intimidation, and harm of patients in this immigrant community.

If we don't fight back, attacks on migrants and our democratic rights will only escalate. Join GABRIELA, the Tanggol Migrante Network, to stand with migrant workers in the fight for our rights, our welfare, and genuine liberation of the Filipino people through National Democracy.

GABRIELA LA condemns the fascist display of force in MacArthur Park on July 7 and the continued large-scale ICE raids as an attack against our migrant communities, workers, and women. We stand in solidarity with migrants organizations and allies demanding Ice Out of LA, and opposing the increasing militarization and fear tactics being weaponized against migrant communities throughout Los Angeles. This recent event coincides with the Trump administration's passing of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which further harms the majority of working people in this country by ruthlessly gutting funding for social services while lining the pockets of the ruling elite.
We stand with all migrants resisting this violent legislation and fascist militarization in our communities. We demand not only its rejection—but the dismantling of the very systems that make such violence possible in the first place. We call on all to link arm in arm with the migrant workers in our communities against the increasing fascist attacks and state neglect! Be a part of our collective solution to the compounding issues faced by Filipino migrant workers by getting organized! Take responsibility for our kababayans’ well being and become a volunteer with the Tanggol Migrante, and join an organization like GABRIELA LA to defend the rights and welfare of Filipino women, children and LGBTQ+ people, through the struggle for National Democracy and genuine liberation!

About this Educational Discussion:
What is fascism? What are its characteristics? Why are fascist governments on the rise, and how have people in history come to together to resist these regimes? As economic conditions worsen, migrants are being scapegoated by fascists across the globe as the cause of issues such as lost jobs, stagnating wages, and higher costs of living. In Southern California, Filipino migrants are being targeted in ongoing ICE raids, facing heightened labor exploitation, and are being held captive in ICE detention.

The mass mobilizations across the U.S. in recent days have been heartening, but with migrants facing escalating attacks from the state, it is crucial that we understand the oppressive forces we are up against. Knowledge of the enemy and their tactics will enable us to chart a path forward to meet this historical moment head-on to protect our communities!

Study with us, discuss what genuine solutions to these crises are, and join our campaign to Tanggol Migrante!
