NORAD Tracks Santa

For those of you with littles who are growing in anticipation of a certain jolly man and his reindeer heading out from the North Pole tomorrow evening ... Here is some fun info to help them track Santa.

Plus I've included a video on the wonderful story behind what started as a phone number typo in an ad many years ago led to this huge NORAD tradition and the technology used today to track Santa.

Making Reservations On Base


The following link will take you to the military lodging. Please know that you must have an approved pass, Military or DoD ID in order to stay on base. Rooms are based on availability. Due to training and or holidays, reservations can be allowed anywhere from three (3) days prior to arrival up to fourteen (14) days, and even that can change. Call as soon as you can to find out what is the best day to make your reservations on base.

Off base lodging is different. It is suggested you find out what the cancellation policies are.

Preparing for your trip


At least one week before leaving change your sleeping time to help adjust to waking up early.

Drink pleanty of water to avoid dehydration.

Pack pleanty of snack for the children and take a few toys that will keep them busy while you wait for the events to start.


Please make sure you have your current Driver License along with current Registration, Tags & Insurance are a MUST if you are driving either a personal vehicle or rental.

Fort Sill Graduation

Fort Sill is located in southwest Oklahoma about 85 miles southwest of Oklahoma CIty, Oklahoma. Click here for more information on air, bus, and train transportation for Fort Sill.

Due to security measures that are implemented at Fort Sill you may experience delays getting onto the post. Be sure to allow for extra time to make sure you arrive at the graduation event on time.

Family members and/or friends attending graduations that are arriving here by motorcycle must have in their possession a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Card. Without this card motorcyclists will NOT be allowed to ride on post.

Documentation required to obtain a vehicle pass for entrance into Fort Sill:

• Drivers license

• Proof of Insurance

• Vehicle Registration

• Motorcycle Safety Foundation Card (if arriving by motorcycle)

What to wear to a graduation ceremony? Your soldier will be dressed in a Class "A" uniform which is the Army's formal uniform. You may wear want you want from casual to your Sunday's best.

Pass Policies vary by unit and depending upon the next destination of your soldier. Please see unit for details on passes after graduation.

There are no animals allowed at the Graduation. The only exception is for service animals.

Cell phones are not allowed in use while driving unless you have a hands free connection. The fine for using cell phones without hands free is $50.00 and $25.00 processing fee.

Seat belts are required and strictly enforced.

WHAT TO BRING TO BASIC COMBAT TRAINING (BCT)

Clothing:

• One-day supply of casual, comfortable clothing (no halter-tops or ragged shorts)

• Three sets of underwear

• Male: Briefs

• Female: Briefs (no thongs), Bras [sports bra preferred] (white/black/neutral color)

• One pair of white, calf-length athletic socks (no color bands, designs or logos) Additional socks will be purchased at the post exchange (PX)

• A pair of comfortable shoes (if you are a Regular Army Solder, you will be required to purchase tennis shoes at the Reception Bn)

• Coat or Jacket (seasonal)

•

Lock:

• One lock (combination or padlock with two keys) Additional lock will be purchased at PX

Toilet Articles:

• Disposable/safety razor with blades

• Non-aerosol Shaving cream (optional for women)

• [Women] Feminine Sanitary Items (as needed)

• Toothbrush and Toothpaste

• Hairbrush, 6" black comb, hair accessories (black or matching hair color)

• One washcloth and towel (Additional items will be purchased at the PX)

• Anti-perspirant/deodorant (non-aerosol only)

• Shampoo and conditioner (1oz)

• Soap (1 bar soap or 1oz liquid soap)

Finance:

• $10.00, but no more than $50.00 in cash

Traveler's Checks or Money Orders (Personal checks are not recommended because of limited check-cashing facilities.)

• Checkbook or cancelled check reflecting the account number and ABA routing number to establish direct deposit bank account for military pay

• ATM card

Important Documents You May Need To Bring With You:

• Childhood and adolescent immunization records, if available

• Social Security card

• Valid driver's license or current state identification card

• Original or certified copies of your marriage certificate, divorce decree or separation order (if applicable)

• Original or certified copies of birth certificates of children under 18; affidavit of support for parents; court documents and direct deposit forms if ordered to pay spousal and/or child support (if applicable)

• Proof of citizenship (if you were not born in the United States)

• If you are married to a service member in the military, have the name, Social Security number and military address of your spouse

• Copies of your lease agreement or rental contract for any dependents residing outside of government quarters (if applicable)

• Original college transcripts; GED or high school diploma

Other Personal documents (Check with Recruiter)

Other:

• Required prescription medications (in original pharmacy container) and/or with doctor's prescription (for women this means your birth control pill Rx)

• Eyeglasses (If prescribed, no faddish/stylish eyewear with prescription if available) with glass cord. They will be issued Rx glasses the first week there.

Your Orders:

• Be sure to have all copies of orders and documents issued by your unit Recruiter and/or MEPS. These orders must be delivered by you and by hand. Travel and meal tickets will be provided.

Notes:

• All items must fit into the Army Future Soldier bag or small airline approved "carry on" suitcase or gym bag.

• Soldiers traveling from overseas locations should add 1 change of clothing and underwear.
