Downtown LA, you might need to clear your weekend. 👀

The Historic Core is PACKED! We’re celebrating 10 years of Yuko Kitchen, welcoming a new Robert Vargas mural, getting the pups dressed for HOWL-O-WEEN, and catching a conversation with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.

Throwback Thursday to a time when Downtown Los Angeles was the beating heart of creativity and ambition — and the Spring Arts Tower was right at its center. 🏛️✨
Built in 1914, this iconic landmark isn’t just a registered historic building; it’s a living testament to LA’s Golden Age, when the Historic Core was the city’s commercial and artistic epicenter. With its ornate façade, marble-clad lobby, and preserved early 20th-century craftsmanship, the Spring Arts Tower still whispers tales of elegance, innovation, and the vibrant culture that once thrived within its walls.
But history isn’t the only thing haunting this place. 👻 Over the years, the tower has become famous for its ghostly residents — including The Night Watchman, a spectral guardian said to patrol the halls, and the spirit of a man tragically crushed in the service elevator. Throwing it back to 1917, when Grand Central Market first opened its doors as the ‘Wonder Market’—billed as the largest and finest public market on the Pacific Coast. 🏛️
This place isn’t just a market; it’s a piece of LA history. The Broadway-facing building, constructed in 1897 by Homer Laughlin (yes, the Homer Laughlin of china fame), was the city’s first fireproofed, steel-reinforced structure. Then in 1905, the Laughlin Annex/Lyon Building extended the market to Hill Street—becoming Southern California’s first reinforced concrete building.
By the 1910s, the Ville de Paris Department Store, one of Downtown’s largest and finest, called this place home before relocating in 1917—the same year Grand Central Market officially opened. And guess what? It’s been serving up flavors and memories ever since.
Today, over 50 stalls keep the spirit alive, from vintage neon signs to restored Beaux Arts details. Here’s to 100+ years of LA’s favorite food institution. Who’s ready to step into the past—and the present? 🍴💛

A better way to understand digital fashion design is to see the process up close.

BonBon | (3D) Commercial Patternmaker is leading futurecore Workshop 01, a hands-on CLO3D session for beginning pattern makers in Downtown Los Angeles.

The workshop is built around real garment development, with space to work through a T-shirt or hoodie concept and get individual guidance along the way.

Free to attend. Limited to 10 participants.
