When LA Más set out to preserve 31 affordable homes, the organization participated in The Center’s B.U.I.L.D. Incubator to strengthen its financing strategy and explore financing options beyond Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC). The outcome speaks for itself.
Today, BUILD is helping more developers strengthen active affordable multifamily housing projects through expert instruction, technical assistance, peer learning, and connections to mission-driven capital providers.

If you’re advancing an affordable housing project and looking to become financing-ready, applications for the next cohort are now open. See link in bio.

Developing affordable housing takes more than a great project. It takes the right financing strategy, strong partnerships, and the knowledge to navigate an increasingly complex funding landscape. That’s why we created the B.U.I.L.D. (Bridging Unique Investments to Leverage Development) Incubator. Supported by the California Community Reinvestment Corporation, BUILD equips developers with the tools, technical assistance, and connections to mission-driven capital providers needed to move affordable multifamily housing projects forward—beyond traditional Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).

If you’re actively advancing an affordable multifamily housing project and looking to strengthen your financing strategy, we encourage you to apply. See link in bio.

Congratulations, Andrea Jenkins, founder of Jazzy Pawz, on an incredible achievement!

For years, Andrea relied on hard work and a passion for animals to grow Jazzy Pawz into Atlanta’s first pet care wellness and workforce hub. But it wasn’t until she joined Beltline Business Ventures that she gained the mentorship, business expertise, and confidence to take her vision to the next level. The result? A first-place finish in the Beltline Business Ventures Pitch Competition and a $75,000 investment to help grow her business.

What can Los Angeles learn from communities that have recovered from hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and wildfires? Quite a bit. FORGE LA partners came together as the Urban Institute shared findings from its research on disaster recovery efforts across the country. The lessons are already helping shape how we think about rebuilding in Los Angeles and reinforcing why FORGE LA exists: to identify the financial tools and policy solutions that can help communities recover more quickly and equitably. Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of opportunity for all.

At The Center, we recognize that economic empowerment is a critical part of that journey. As we reflect on the significance of this day, we honor the contributions of Black business owners, leaders, and changemakers whose innovation and perseverance continue to strengthen communities.

Freedom creates possibility. Opportunity helps communities thrive.

In 2025, The Center focused on helping small businesses and communities navigate disruption and build long-term resilience. From wildfire recovery in Los Angeles County to the launch of Main Street Goes Green, B.U.I.L.D. and CA REACH, this year’s work reflects the growing need to support businesses through both crisis and transformation. Our Impact Report highlights the partnerships, programs, and community stories behind this work. Thank you to the funders, partners, and community leaders who make this work possible.

We’ve released The Center by Lendistry’s Strategic Plan for 2026–2028, a roadmap for how we’ll continue supporting small businesses and strengthening the communities they anchor. The plan responds directly to the moment we’re in, with widening wealth gaps and increasing climate-related disruptions, and reflects why The Center is uniquely positioned to meet it.
