We are a nonprofit company, providing a place for singers and composers to connect, workshop, and perform new works of opera and musical theater.

Founded in 2018, Modern Opera Company began as an outlet for singers in New York City who wanted to gain experience by doing concert versions of 20th Century works of opera and musical theater. After several years, the company evolved into a place for creators of classical and broadway-style music to workshop and present their works-in-progress to an audience, performed by top-level singers and actors. The company took a hiatus in the wake of COVID-19. Now, relocated to Los Angeles, CA, Modern Opera Company is back and dedicated to telling the stories of composers and artists from marginalized communities. We wish to continue connecting artists and workshopping new musicals and operas. Our next presentation will be the world premiere of Felix Jarrar's horror opera, The Tell-Tale Heart, October 2025

On this 4th of July, we recommit to our mission to showcase the beautiful, diverse artists who make our community and our country more complete. To us, America means diversity, equity and inclusion. We’re proud to champion artists who also believe in these virtues. We will never stop working to bring new music to the community, and we will never stop supporting those marginalized voices who need to be heard! Keep speaking out and making joyful noise! This is what truly makes us great. 🎇🎉🎶🎆🌈🇺🇸❤️
