Kick back with some great flicks under the stars and good vibes for the first-ever Backyard Cinema night!
Join us for the screening of two short films, Broke Lovers by Leon Pierce Jr. and Some Kind of Heavenly Fire by Eric Vincent Riley , along with episodes from The Outtakes mini series by Dominick Adunagow. The night will also include a Q&A with the directors, plus food and drinks. Tickets are $10 to support the filmmakers and help us continue building this event series.

Join the American Cinematheque for New Black Hollywood, is a biannual cultural gathering spotlighting emerging Black filmmakers and rising Black industry leaders working across today’s entertainment landscape. Hosted at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, the evening brings together filmmakers, executives, producers, creatives, and film lovers for a program that blends conversation, discovery and community.
This event is co-presented by community partners Scene & Heard, Minorities in Film and Hollywood Pivot.

We are looking for the best and brightest diverse student leaders to participate in this historic program. It is for both undergraduate and graduate students from HBCUs and other predominantly minority-serving institutions.
This highly competitive program is open to students of all majors with a genuine interest and passion to pursue a career in the Entertainment, Media, Sports, Music, E-Sports, Communication, and Technology industry.

Students accepted into the program will be immersed in an 8-10 week intensive internship experience working behind the scenes with major studios, networks, agencies, record labels, production companies, and other leading industry organizations.

MEET OUR NEW CREATIVE PRODUCER ✨

Desirae (Des) Lee is a creative producer, multi-media artist, poet and filmmaker from Jacksonville, FL. She strives to create art which celebrates vulnerability, finds beauty amongst the mundane, and portrays Black people in diverse ways. 

She is a Blackhouse Foundation Fellow, a Facebook SEEN initiative winner, and a Paul Robeson Awardee. Films directed by Des have screened at national festivals including Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Fest, Pan-African Film Festival, Afrikana Film Festival and the American Black Film Festival.

Des is an Alumnae of the University of Florida where she completed a unique program infusing photojournalism and innovation. Des holds an MFA in film from Howard University.

This selection of eight films grapples with themes of longing, existence, and desire and serves as an exploration of the self, the other, our obsessions, and the intricate interplay between being seen and unseen. Through these narratives, we gain insight into the delicate relationship between the American Gurl and her identity, and how one can be both lost and found.

From July 24 - August 16, see these films at the to experience nuanced perspectives on how women of color navigate the complexities of our nation’s systems and institutions.

Get ready for an incredible night celebrating the richness, resilience, and beauty of Black q***r stories. We’re showcasing three powerful films that explore q***r history and identity: Miss Honey: The Catsuit directed by Brandon Nick, Butterflydirected by Iree Mann, and Caribbean Queendirected by Sekiya Dorsett.
