The letter argues that legislation and hearings targeting Sharia are not legitimate responses to a tangible legal or policy issue—rather, they are efforts to scapegoat one religious community for political gain.
In doing so, signatories warn that such measures undermine our constitution's First Amendment principles, while also normalizing anti-Muslim prejudice in halls of Congress.
