Trump’s “Two VERY DIFFERENT Americas” post isn’t just political rhetoric, it uses a Muslim American candidate and his wife to portray Muslim identity as incompatible with being American. American Muslims are not the “other America.” We are American!

Following Abdul El-Sayed’s Democratic primary victory in Michigan, a number of Republican members of Congress have responded with anti-Muslim rhetoric and attacks targeting American Muslim communities.

Elected officials have a responsibility to uphold democratic norms and reject rhetoric that marginalizes Americans based on their faith or background. Political disagreement cannot become an excuse for collective targeting or religious bigotry.

We thank U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy for condemning this clearly anti-Muslim rhetoric and affirming an important truth that American Muslims are an integral part of our communities and our country.

Representative Andy Ogles, whose tenure was marked by vitriolic rhetoric and the formation of the Sharia Free America Caucus, was defeated in his primary.

Similarly, Representative Nancy Mace, an active proponent of bigoted conspiracies and xenophobic policy, announced her exit from public office following a significant primary loss in her gubernatorial bid.

The rhetoric deployed by these individuals, from labeling entire Muslim communities as enemies within the gates to promoting bans on foreign born judges, was not merely dynamic political speech. They have directly contributed to the growing atmosphere of normalized anti-Muslim rhetoric that have put the lives of American Muslims at risk.

Their respective exits are a profound victory for democratic values.

While these leaders are stepping down, the rhetoric and policies they promoted persist. Sustaining a healthy, inclusive democracy requires our continuous engagement to ensure bigoted rhetoric never finds safe harbor in the halls of power.

🚨MPAC Joins and Welcomes Boycott of Senate Hearing Targeting American Muslim Communities🚨

Today, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts is holding a hearing titled *"Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America."

MPAC is closely monitoring today's proceedings because government rhetoric has real-world consequences for the safety, civil rights, and constitutional freedoms of American Muslim communities.

We commend Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Richard Blumenthal, Mazie Hirono, Alex Padilla, and Peter Welch for boycotting this hearing and calling it what it is: a political effort that scapegoats Muslims instead of addressing genuine public concerns.
