Another eventful day of activity at in Nashville, highlighted by the appearance of three potential 2028 presidential candidates.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and current Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear each joined National Urban League President & CEO Marc H. Morial for individual fireside chats, giving each leader equal time to share their perspectives.

President Morial asked each of them similar questions, including their views on the current state of America, the leadership qualities needed in the next U.S. President, their take on the Iran conflict, their assessment of our current foreign affairs policy, and more.

All three speakers drew favorable reviews from the audience, earning applause oftentimes throughout their remarks and responses to President Morial's questions. While none would commit to an official presidential campaign just yet, it was clear they are each giving thoughtful consideration to the future.

Their appearance today in Nashville underscores the importance of engaging with the Urban League movement when considering a serious run for the White House.

Our conference concludes tomorrow.

Recapping an eventful and newsworthy Day 2 here in Nashville at the National Urban League Conference.

Esteemed civil rights attorney Ben Crump delivered a stirring call for justice. He was joined on stage during the morning plenary alongside the families of three 18-year-old men—Nolan Wells, Daniel Erving, and Tyler Smith—whose deaths within the past three months are being disputed or investigated for unanswered questions.

The session underscored the conference's commitment to accountability and justice. Later, Crump held a press conference heavily attended by local, state, and national media. Crump told reporters the evidence he has been presented in all three cases "doesn't add up."

Earlier in the plenary session, a distinguished panel of newsmakers, including Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, implored the audience to never give up, never surrender, and understand that they hold the power "to vote."

Afterward, a dynamic panel of youth influencers reiterated Congresswoman Crockett's message, telling an audience made up of hundreds of other youth leaders, "Do not underestimate us."

This all coincided with today's release of the National Urban League's 2026 State of Black America report, which begs the question, "Is the American Dream Dead?" Written by President & CEO Marc H. Morial with contributors including Maryland Governor Wes Moore, U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware, U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland, and others, this report serves as a progress report card for Black America. It is the 50th edition of this landmark publication.

Later in the day, we attended the always inspiring Women of Power Awards Luncheon. Former Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to speak at the conference on Friday.

Numerous other workshops and panel discussions were held throughout the day. The Young Professionals also hosted a panel discussion on entrepreneurship featuring Intuit, with whom we partnered on our Intuit IDEAS cohorts.

The conference, centered on Defending Democracy, Demanding Diversity, and Defeating Poverty, continues for two more days.

📍Day 2 at continues to inspire, challenge, and mobilize.

Thursday's opening plenary brought together an extraordinary lineup of leaders, advocates, and changemakers committed to advancing opportunity and justice.

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, author Michael Eric Dyson, CNN political commentator Van Jones, and Professor Dedrick Asante-Muhammad shared a powerful message of resilience and strategy—reminding attendees that the American Dream is not out of reach, but that achieving it requires purpose, perseverance, and collective action.

The momentum continued as renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump, introduced as the "Attorney General of Black America," delivered a stirring call for justice he was joined on stage by parents of --Nolan Wells, Daniel Erving and Tyler Smith--three young men whose recent deaths are under strong suspicion and investigation.

A moving youth leadership panel followed, inspiring hundreds of young leaders in attendance and reinforcing that the next generation is ready to shape the future of the movement.

🎥 A powerful opening night at .

The message from National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial continues to resonate following his inspiring State of the Urban League address.

In a powerful symbolic moment, President Morial was joined by Urban League affiliate CEOs dressed in black to mark a symbolic eulogy for racism—a visual reminder that the work to build a more just and equitable America must continue with purpose and resolve.

President Morial also unveiled a bold six-point economic action plan, calling on Urban League affiliates, partners, and communities across the country to take action. His message was clear: the Urban League will not be silent, and it will not retreat from its enduring mission of equity, inclusion, and economic empowerment.

As the conference continues through Saturday, the Los Angeles Urban League is proud to stand alongside leaders from across the nation, learning, collaborating, and preparing to welcome the movement to Los Angeles for the 2027 National Urban League Conference.
