Congratulations to 89 Backpack — this year’s Fat Bear Week 2026 Champion!

Annenberg Foundation Director Charles Annenberg Weingarten’s explore.org has matched over $350k in donations. Inspired by your generosity, he will continue to match donations through the end of the week to exceed the original goal.

Despite spanning 4 million acres of wild rivers, volcanoes, and coastline, Katmai National Park and Preserve remains one of our least funded Parks. The annual Fat Bear Week fundraiser, the Otis Fund, helps bridge that gap by providing critical funding for Park staff and infrastructure, research projects, tribal coordination, youth education, wildlife conservation, and much more.

The 2026 Fat Bear Week semifinals are upon us! Head to fatbearweek.org now to vote for your favorite bear and help support the Otis Fund.

Annenberg Foundation Director Charles Annenberg Weingarten’s explore.org partners annually with Katmai Conservancy for Fat Bear Week, a bracket-style tournament to determine the champion brown bear that has gained the most pre-hibernation weight. The tournament celebrates some of the largest brown bears on earth who make their home at Brooks River in Katmai National Park in Alaska.

One year ago today, the Annenberg family and the Annenberg Foundation lost Wallis Annenberg — a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and one of Los Angeles’ most influential philanthropists.

Earlier this month, on what would have been Wallis' 87th birthday, the County of Los Angeles and the Cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica proclaimed the inaugural Wallis Annenberg Day, ensuring that July 15 will remain a lasting tribute to her extraordinary life and generosity.

Wallis believed in investing in people and ideas that strengthened communities and expanded opportunities. She carried forward a tradition of philanthropy that began with her father and grandfather, and her family is proud to continue that legacy.

Today, we honor her memory with gratitude and reaffirm our commitment to the values that shaped her life and continue to shape our work at the Annenberg Foundation.

Today would have been Wallis Annenberg’s 87th birthday. In recognition of Wallis’ life and lasting contributions, the County of Los Angeles and the Cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica have each proclaimed July 15 as Wallis Annenberg Day.

Wallis cared deeply about Los Angeles and the people and organizations that make it stronger. Lauren Bon, Gregory Annenberg Weingarten, and Charles Annenberg Weingarten — following in the footsteps of their late mother — will continue to carry that commitment forward through their stewardship of the Annenberg Foundation.

Today, we remember Wallis and honor her enduring impact across the region.
