Survivor Justice Center

Survivor Justice Center Empowering survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault LACLJ provides free legal representation, education and advocacy.

Our services decrease homelessness, increase family stability and provide safe, violence-free homes for children. LACLJ believes that justice should not be determined by wealth, citizenship, language, or age. We focus on serving families in crisis and those who have the greatest barriers to accessing our judicial system. We help individuals face their adversity with the dignity that they deserve.

We are unique among legal aid programs because we prioritize client-based services, focus on providing direct legal services by our staff attorneys, not volunteers, and we are able to serve individuals regardless of legal status or age. We offer a full range of services, including advice and counsel, preparation of legal documents, and representation in court.

Meet Stephanie Davidson (she/her), our Supervising Attorney for our Family Law team at Survivor Justice Center. She joined us in April 2026 but has been working with survivors for almost 20 years! Stephanie is responsible for leading our Family Law team, doing a little bit of everything to ensure our clients have access to the resources they need.

What makes Stephanie so passionate about serving survivors? She said, "I keep doing the work because the survivors I've known in my life are my heroes. It is a true privilege to witness and support their commitment to their children and their willingness to fight for the life they deserve. It doesn't hurt that the people who choose to work in this sector tend to be delightful colleagues!"

Our summer cohort of community advocates have spent the past two months providing essential support to our clients! At the start of the summer we asked them what they were looking forward to learning; they’ve certainly accomplished all that and more! They’ve assisted our clients with resource navigation and safety planning, as well as providing court accompaniment. We’re grateful for their time with us!

Last week our summer CA cohort, along with some of our staff, participated in advocacy day at the Stanley Mosk courthouse. They sat in on a restraining order hearing, participated in a Q&A with Commissioner Cohen, and learned more about the roles social workers can play in the court system.
