Vision To Learn provides a proven and cost-effective solution bridging a structural gap in healthcare access and directly addressing educational inequity.

Vision To Learn provides vision screenings, eye exams and eyeglasses to children at school in low-income communities, all at no cost to the child or their family. Our mobile clinics, staffed by licensed doctors, bring eye exams and glasses directly to children at schools in underserved communities, free of charge. Since its founding, Vision To Learn has demonstrated its ability to provide vision care by using mobile clinics, bringing the care directly to children at schools and community organizations. To date, Vision To Learn has helped students in over 500 communities, in 14 states, and Washington, D.C., and is the largest school-based program of its kind. UCLA Research has found:

• Vision To Learn provides access to vision care and glasses for students who would otherwise go without
• Students’ classroom performance improved
• Students were better able to focus and participate in class
• Students and parents were often unaware they had vision issues
• Vision To learn reduced the stigma of wearing glasses by providing fashionable frames and distributing them in a group environment

Smiles all around! ❤️

Earlier last week, Vision To Learn, along with Chad Dime, Co-Founder of DIFF Eyewear (DIFF) and Anita Huggins, Charleston County School District superintendent, held an epic celebration for elementary school kids at Charleston Progressive Academy where they were provided with their first pair of glasses! 💫 👓 There was music, pizza, dancing, a DJ, and a surprise visit from local mascot Cool Ray.

A big thank you from Vision To Learn to school and county staff, including the great nurses, and local community partners who make this work possible every single day. And congrats to DIFF for the recent opening of their first store—right in Charleston!

In 5 years, national charity Vision to Learn has donated thousands of free eye exams and glasses to the children in the Lowcountry. That work was cheered on at an event wit Charleston County schools.

A pair of glasses does more than provide clear vision. It can inspire a child’s vision for their future. 🌱

That’s Brighton’s story. A bright student who loves to help people, she used to have difficulty seeing the board, leading to strained eyes and frequent headaches. Even so, she was nervous to wear glasses because she was worried that other kids might make fun of her.

After Vision To Learn came to her school and provided her with a pair of purple prescription eyeglasses, Brighton discovered the transformative effect of glasses. Her headaches slipped away. Her grades improved.

“She feels so smart,” her mom Katrina said. “She now wants to be a teacher.” 👩‍🏫

Glasses enabled Brighton to see her full potential and build the confidence to dream big. This World Sight Day, we’re celebrating the power of vision care to give children the opportunity to envision their future more clearly.

What difference can vision care make in the lives of children and their families? Ask an educator. 👓💙

UTLA Elementary Vice President Maria Miranda shares the impact she saw firsthand when over 700 students had their vision screened (in just a few hours!)—and more than 200 were provided with the glasses they needed to see and learn from Vision To Learn.

That’s hundreds of students with a clearer view of the lessons in front of them. And families who didn’t have to worry about the cost.

Our students come to school with a lot of needs. There's humanity in meeting those needs. Partnering with organizations like Vision To Learn, which brings eye care directly to children at schools, is exactly what community schools are about.

We know that when our students' basic needs are met, they can thrive.

𝗜𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮, 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮. That day, five children received glasses—a small beginning for a problem we couldn’t accept: kids were being asked to learn without being able to clearly see the lesson.

A pair of glasses could help. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

That’s why we brought eye exams and glasses directly to schools at no cost to families—first in Los Angeles, then in communities across the nation. A child’s opportunity to learn shouldn’t depend on whether their family can afford glasses or make it to an appointment.

At 24th Street Elementary, watching children receive their glasses brought us back to what we hoped to make possible from the beginning: a child who can follow what their teacher is showing them. Read what’s written on the board. Spend less effort trying to see and more energy learning.

It started with five children. Every child since has given us another reason to keep going.

“I’m back home, y’all. This is home.” ❤️

Before Sherlett Hendy Newbill represented District 1 on the LA Unified Board of Education, she was a student at 24th Street Elementary School—an “Eagle”. Today, she returned to the same elementary school she once attended to celebrate the kids as Vision To Learn provided them with their glasses.

For Newbill, who wears glasses herself, the connection was personal. She spoke about how much clear vision matters to a child’s education—and how intimidating it can be for a student to speak up and say they can’t see.

“This partnership [with Vision To Learn] means the world,” she said. “The opportunity for our children is amazing.”

That’s why Vision To Learn provides vision screenings, eye exams, and glasses directly to children at school, at no cost to their families. 🏫 Getting the help they need can happen in a place they already know, surrounded by the educators who support them every day.

For the Eagles receiving glasses today, clearer vision means being able to read, play, and participate more fully.

And as Sherlett reminded them, it’s their turn to “see like eagles.” 🦅

These were the initial reactions parents shared after their child put on their new glasses from Vision To Learn for the first time.

Logynn’s mom noticed that Logynn was able to focus much better after she received her glasses and that she no longer complained about difficulty seeing when reading books. Maximus was excited that he could see the board from afar now. He no longer needs to sit in front of the classroom just to be able to see the board.
