At the end of last month we lost a friend, an animal advocate, a talented writer and a long time board member of Home Dog LA (and then BetterTogether Forever). Sally Nemeth was with Home Dog L.A. from our very first steps as a new organization. She was part of the energy that got us going. Sally wrote our grants, came up with our name and did so much more. And when the pandemic hit she made masks for the pet owners we helped with the wonderful group Auntie Sewing Squad. We are mourning the loss of Sally on this planet where she did so much good. Here is a beautiful tribute by her husband Dave Willis.
Where do I begin. I have been trying to put together my thoughts on what to say. I am truly at a loss for words. First I am the luckiest man to have spent the last 20 years with Sally as my soul mate. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was always looking forward to the next adventure. For the last 5 plus years Sal always said "I live with cancer and I will not let it get in the way". That it did not do. We went on as many adventures as we could and whether they be big or small it never slowed her down. The last 6 months were the hardest on her but, in her usual fashion she did it her way.
As you all know Sal was a fierce activist whether it was from speaking out for women's rights to saving dogs in the local shelter.
Sal would never back down when she was in a discussion about any topic that she felt very strong about. I often wonder what the mailman thinks when he delivers all the monthly newsletters from SPLC and like organizations.
There is one thing for certain I will miss her to no end. I have a hole in my heart that cannot be filled. Sal was one of a kind for which I loved very much. There will be a memorial gathering for her at the Grace E Simons Lodge in Elysian Park in Los Angeles on October 2nd from 12 to 5. This is the park where Sal walked the dogs everyday. I will send out a reminder in September. If you would like to make a contribution to two of the things that were very close to Sally's heart they are Taiko Project http://taikoproject.org/ and www.peopleandpetsbtf.org
I would like to thank everyone who sent good thoughts and messages to me, Carolyn Nemeth and Paula Nemeth Mitchell. If there is anyone who is not on face book and would like to attend please pass this on.
As Sal always said raise a glass at sunset and think good thoughts.
Peace
