Mentoring the next generation is a vital investment in a thriving Jewish future.

The Julie Beren Platt Teen Innovation Grant (TIG) celebrated the conclusion of its 10th cohort with a Final Showcase last Sunday, when 18 high school students from across Los Angeles, representing 15 innovative projects, came together with their mentors and families to share the work they had spent the past six months developing and implementing.

Through TIG, teens gain the support and guidance to transform their ideas into real-world impact. Their presentations showcased creativity, leadership, and a commitment to strengthening the communities around them. It was an inspiring celebration of a remarkable group of young changemakers.

Honoring Holocaust survivors is one of the most meaningful ways to build loving Jewish community.

We celebrated the intergenerational wisdom survivors pass down and the resilience they embody at the Holocaust Survivor Day luncheon on Tuesday when we gave the Café Europa community of survivors the admiration and appreciation they deserve, in partnership with Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles, Kavod Shef, and Seed the Dream Foundation.

Pictured above are a married couple, Yefim and Frida Yufa. They’ve been part of Café Europa for years, and shared, “We know each other. People this age aren’t so social, and this is the place we can see each other.”

Experiencing Jewish community abroad can change perspectives, and lives.

NuRoots and JDC Entwine recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Finland and Latvia, where we walked the historic cobblestone streets of Helsinki, took boat rides to Suomenlinna (the sea fortress in Helsinki composed of eight islands), enjoyed trips to the sauna and dips in the Baltic Sea, helped clean up the local Jewish cemetery, and catalogued the library at Helsinki’s JCC.

In Riga, we attended an Israeli Independence Day celebration with the Israeli ambassador, tasted pickled fish in crowded restaurants, and crashed a dance class at the local JCC. We celebrated a beautiful Shabbat, participated in a Latvian drum circle, and tasted balsam (an aromatic, resinous sap) in an underground cave. We celebrated havdalah in community with local young adults, exchanged stories and postcards with each other, and returned already excited for our next time together.

Feel the joy of being part of our inclusive community this Pride Month as we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ Jews who make our city richer, stronger, and more vibrant. Together, with our longtime partner JQ International, we're helping build a Jewish Los Angeles where everyone can show up as their authentic selves.

Since 2004, JQ has created transformative programs for LGBTQIA+ Jews, including the Teen Jewish Q***r Straight Alliance, the lifesaving JQ Helpline, and the world's first Persian Pride summit. Thank you to JQ and to the LGBTQIA+ Jews who help make our community more welcoming and inclusive every day.

The joy of good-natured competition came alive for our Jewish Professional Women (JPW) community at Networking Game Night with RummiKlubLA last Tuesday in Beverly Hills. It was a fabulous event where connections formed over Rummikub, the classic tabletop game that’s quickly become one of L.A.’s most sought-after community-building experiences. The women who attended left with more than just a winning hand.

Teaching the next generation the truth about Israel is the foundation for building lasting allies. The Holy Land Democracy Project (HLDP) gives local educators a nuanced perspective on our ancestral homeland; the program typically includes a study trip to Israel. While this year's trip was ultimately cancelled due to the war with Iran, the 2026 HLDP cohort still came together for an immersive educational experience that will change the way they teach about Israel in their classrooms. Participants engaged in powerful sessions that explored the Jewish people, Middle East history, and the complex realities shaping the region today.

The generosity of our compassionate Valley community was on powerful display at our Major Gifts Society Event Wednesday in Encino.

We’re grateful to Sarah Hurwitz — a presidential speechwriter, author, and rabbi-in-training — for sharing her insightful perspective on contemporary Judaism and the importance of reclaiming our own Jewish narrative through storytelling. Our Chair of the Board Daniel Gryczman led a meaningful conversation with Sarah, reminding us why joy is at the center of Jewish life. Our President & CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas eloquently shared how your support continues to strengthen and uplift Jewish Los Angeles every day. A heartfelt thank you to Nancy and Scott Beiser for opening their warm and welcoming home and for chairing such a special evening.
