When Taya was a student at Lawndale High School, she knew she wanted to go to college. As a first-generation college student, she wasn’t always sure what that path would look like.

Through BBBSLA’s Women in Entertainment (WIE) program, Taya found a mentor and a community of support as she navigated the college process, explored her goals, and discovered new possibilities along the way.

Her journey eventually led her to El Segundo High School, where she graduated with a full-ride scholarship to Chapman University. 🎓

Today, Taya is putting her Communications degree to work while exploring her passions in sales, entertainment, events, and fashion. From modeling at New York Fashion Week to building her network in Los Angeles, she’s continuing to explore, grow, and create opportunities for herself.

We’re so proud to celebrate all that Taya is doing and can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next!

What starts as a mentorship can become a lifelong friendship.

For Denise and Carla, one match through the Big Sisters program grew into 41 years of friendship, encouragement, shared milestones, and unwavering support. Today, their connection extends across generations, with Carla lovingly known as “Auntie Carla” to Denise’s daughters and grandchildren.

Their story is a powerful example of the lasting impact a caring mentor can have. A mentor’s presence can extend far beyond the time spent together, creating a relationship that continues to provide connection, encouragement, and support for decades.

The 33rd Annual BBBSLA Golf Classic was one for the books! We teed off at The Riviera Country Club, brought our amazing community together, and—thanks to YOU—raised more than $500,000 to support the power of mentorship! 💙

The future is bright! 🎉🎓

This past weekend, we proudly celebrated 41 graduating high school and college senior Littles at our annual Match Graduation. A milestone that reflects years of hard work, perseverance, and the unwavering support of their Bigs, families, and our community.

Representing our Community-Based, Workplace, Women in Entertainment, and Big Futures programs, these graduates are stepping into exciting new chapters, carrying with them the confidence, resilience, and encouragement that mentorship helps build.

We were honored to welcome Senator Maria Elena Durazo and Assemblymember Mike Fong, who joined us in recognizing our graduates with congratulatory remarks and certificates. We also extend our sincere thanks to Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, Assemblymember Jose Luis Solache, and Assemblymember Sade Elhawary for providing certificates to celebrate this important milestone.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible emcee, Board Member and alumni Big Sister Kim Baldonado, and our inspiring keynote speaker, alumni Little Brother and National Youth Council Member Josue Velasquez, for reminding our graduates that their journey is just beginning.

To our graduates: Congratulations! We can’t wait to see all you accomplish. Your futures are full of possibility, and we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way. 💚

We are excited to have a booth at CicLAvia—West LA on Sunday, April 26, from 9am to 4pm. Experience 3 miles of car-free open streets connecting Santa Monica Blvd and Westwood Blvd into a public park for the day.

Come enjoy the open space in your favorite people-powered way—whether that’s walking, jogging, biking, skating, or simply spectating. Take the day at your own pace; it’s not a race. You can enter or exit the route at any point.

Come find us at the Santa Monica Hub (See map attached)! Stop by to learn about our program and get your BBBSLA sticker. You’ll also find essentials, community partners, resource booths, activities, photo ops, and more at the various Hubs.

CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization that has been opening streets across LA County since 2010. As always, their events are FREE and welcoming to all ages and abilities.
